Since 1849, the village of Hopedale in eastern Ohio has been one of The Buckeye State’s loveliest localities. The tiny town was platted in the middle of the 19th century, and since then, its population has never exceeded much more than 1,000 full-time residents. The name was originally supposed to be Green, but its original founder Cyrus McNeely purchased the land and named it Hopedale because he had high hopes for the town and its burgeoning school system.

Although Hopedale is within driving distance of Cleveland and Columbia, it is less than an hour's drive from Pittsburgh, where the international airport ensures easy access to the area. This splendid destination is a fantastic place to visit any time throughout the year, and when you book an RV in Hopedale, you can tour the state of Ohio and see its many natural and human-made attractions.

Discover Hopedale

The Great Outdoors

Ohio is chock-full of dazzling parks and campgrounds you can make great use of with the help of your Hopedale campervan rental. Fernwood State Forest and Harrison State Forest can be found on either side of Hopedale, both with lots to offer. The parks are open for hunting and fishing and contain miles of scenic hiking loops and simple campgrounds where you can park the Hopedale motorhome rental.

Salt Fork State Park is a fun stop on any road trip, named for its massive salt reserves and the various salt licks lining its creeks. The unusual deposits are often sought out by resident wildlife. There are a few marinas and boat launches in the park, along with swimming areas, secluded fishing spots, hunting zones, sandy beaches, and an 18-hole golf course.

Barkcamp State Park contains Belmont Lake, yet another idyllic water feature with fantastic boating and fishing opportunities. You can also go hunting in the land surrounding the lake, or hiking through the dense woods. Additionally, you can use your Hopedale RV rental and camp in style at the campground on the edge of the lake.

If you take your Hopedale campervan rental up for a ride to Cleveland, you can stop by the dreamy Cuyahoga Valley National Park, a pristine paradise hidden in the heart of Ohio. Once decimated and stripped for resources, this lush forest is now revitalized and full of life. You can make your way through its riparian habitats and lush groves, or swim in enchanting springs fed by cascading waterfalls. There are even historic structures in the small park, but despite how hard you try, it will probably take multiple visits to this amazing national park to see it all.

RV Parks

While you will be able to find some campgrounds in the area, there are minimal options in the town. There are some options nearby, though. Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins is not too far away, near a large lake full of activities. There are lots of kid-friendly amenities like bumper boats, boat rentals, climbing inflatable obstacle courses in the swimming lake, two fishing ponds, a water slide, and a camp store.

Utica Shale RV Park has spacious camping sites. On-site, there are a playground, a pet park, and high-speed internet. Clendening Lake Marina and Campground has a camping area along the lake for fishing and boating enthusiasts to enjoy. There is lots of space to splash around and cool off during the summer, plus secluded fishing spots, campfire areas, and hiking trails.

City Sightseeing

When you rent an RV in Hopedale, you'll be in a charming little town center with few locally owned businesses. A short trip to nearby Steubenville will yield some additional attractions to explore. Historic Fort Steuben is an 18th-century military fort erected to protect against the French and indigenous peoples of the Ohio Valley. You can learn lots about local culture at this fantastic attraction, and it has been known to provide tours for guests, hold events, and put on concerts for the public.

Over in Cadiz, the Clark Gable Museum celebrates the life of “The King of Hollywood.” Gable grew up in Hopedale but was born in Cadiz, where his reconstructed childhood home now acts as a small museum. The building is a replica of the actor’s childhood home, complete with actual artifacts and memorabilia used by him and his family.

In Flushing, the incredible Underground Railroad Museum celebrates the fascinating history of the Underground Railroad, a pipeline that helped thousands of slaves reach freedom on a northbound path utilizing hidden passages, safe houses, and a complex system of codes and secrecy.
