The Great Outdoors

Explore the sights of the north Georgia mountains at Unicoi State Park. Located in the city of Helen, Unicoi is a 1,050-acre state park with the 53-acre Unicoi Lake as its centerpiece. There are many things to experience at Unicoi including an archery range, zip lines, fly fishing, kayaking, paddling, and much more. Another cool spot near Helen is Raven Cliffs Falls. The hike to Raven Cliff Falls is five miles round trip (2.5 miles one way) and is relatively easy until the end, where it gets a little steep as you climb over large rocks.

If you’re in Helen during the warmer months, you can tube down the Chattahoochee River. The 430-mile river, which originates in Jacks Knob in Union County, flows through the heart of Helen. When the weather permits, you can rent a tube from several outfitters located on the river and spend a day “shootin’ the Hooch”. Since there are no real rapids on this portion of the river, it’s a perfect outing for everyone, even children.

Camping at this adventure park is limited to tree houses and covered wagons; you won’t have electricity, but it will probably be an experience you won’t ever forget.
