Named for Revolutionary War heroine Nancy Morgan Hart, Hartwell is a charming, quiet town in Hart County, Georgia close to the South Carolina state line. Hartwell was founded in 1854, incorporated as a town in 1856, and finally made a city in 1904, along the way becoming the county seat for Hart County.

Hartwell is situated in the eastern foothills of the mighty Appalachian Mountains, which heavily shape the subtropical climate in and around Hartwell. There are lots of creeks, rivers, and lakes nearby, and when you book an RV in Hartwell, you are in a good position to see them all. Howell Street, one of the town’s main arteries, is full of brightly-painted homes and historic buildings, helping to establish a refreshing and enchanting atmosphere that will have you wanting to stay longer. The town feels quite isolated out in the middle of rural Georgia, but both Atlanta and Athens are quite easy to reach with your Hartwell RV rental when you hit the road.

There is a campground you can utilize when you rent an RV, as well as a small outdoor theater that puts on events and educational programs. Elrod Ferry Recreation Area and Long Point Recreation Area are also close by, with places to camp, fish, swim, and hike.

Up to the north, Tugaloo State Park and Lake Hartwell State Park both sit on either side of the Savannah River in their respective states. Tugaloo State Park is located on the Georgia side of the state line, with 400 acres of wide-open land along the water’s edge. There are over 100 campsites where you can park your Hartwell RV rental, in addition to rental cottages, yurts, beaches, tennis courts, picnic pavilions, and boat launches. Lake Hartwell State Park is across the river in South Carolina, with much of the same activities and features. Rental cabins, playgrounds, swimming areas, fishing spots, boat launches, and camping areas are all part of this enjoyable park in South Carolina.

The northern parts of Georgia are blanketed in lush forests and ancient mountain ranges, all part of the mesmerizing Chattahoochee National Forest. Chattahoochee National Forest is by far the largest nature park in the state, totaling well over three-quarters of a million acres atop the Appalachian Mountains. There are ten wilderness areas, dozens of recreation areas, and plenty of campgrounds to accommodate you and your Hartwell camper rental when you venture to this outdoor gem. Furthermore, you can explore thousands of miles of creeks, rivers, and waterways by means of kayaking or canoeing, and hundreds of miles of tranquil hiking paths.

This monument is likened to Stonehenge in the United Kingdom, believed to be the center of the universe by Cherokee indigenous people. The granite structure is quite aesthetically pleasing, with lots of words from different languages inscribed on it.
