Haines City is a small city in Polk County and a part of the Tampa Bay community, in the state of Florida. It was first populated and began to grow around 1885 as Clay Cut; later, it changed its name to Haines City, in honor of Colonel Henry Haines, a senior South Florida Railway official, in order to convince the railroad to build a station at their community (which they did). The city was incorporated as the Town of Haines City in 1914; its original economy was focused on raising and packaging citrus products.

Haines City is home to several NFL professional football players, singer and actress Mary Hatcher, and Sevyn Streeter, an R&B singer and songwriter. Book an RV in Polk County and you are ready for an adventure lined with palm trees and ocean views. Other cities of interest that should be explored areKissimmee, Lake Wales, Bartow, Lakeland, and Brandon. Lake Wales is well known for its antique and art shops and has a large area with numerous athletic fields and parks. Bartow has an interesting history which is reflected in its museums and historical homes (some of which are open to the public). Your Haines City RV trailer rental is the perfect vehicle for visiting these destinations and the perfect storage for the souvenirs you pick up along the way.

The Great Outdoors

The geography and climate around Haines City and Polk County is described as humid and subtropical, but parts of this area can be quite dry due to the porous white sand and open terrain. It consists of coastal flatlands that rise up into low, gently rolling hills. Average temperatures are relatively warm from December to February and then become somewhat hotter the rest of the year, so remember to pack lots of summer clothing.

Hilochee WMA is a wildlife preserve with songbirds and animals that can be safely viewed (although the animals themselves might be a little shy). There are hiking trails of easy to moderate difficulty and two lakes where visitors can fish.

Catfish Creek Preserve State Park is a no-frills outdoor experience guaranteed to rejuvenate the soul. Visitors here can see deer, snakes and other varieties of wildlife. The terrain is sandy and there is very little shade, so dress appropriately (proper hiking shoes with ankle support, water, and headgear).

RV Parks

Most if not all of the RV campgrounds in or near Haines City have seasonal or permanent tenants, with a small number of sites for one nighters or people paying by the week. Most of the campgrounds have restrooms, showers and allow pets. The sites in most campgrounds have full hookups, Wi-Fi and pull-through access. Rent a motorhome in Haines City and you are well equipped for camping and traveling throughout Polk County and beyond.

Paradise Island RV Park is a larger campground with a swimming pool, access to a lake and a dock where guests can fish. There are also numerous on-site recreational activities and social events.

Central Park RV Resort is a large campground with laundry facilities, a recreational trail for hiking and a recreation room with activities and games for rainy days.

Exploring The City

Outdoor enthusiasts who just can't get enough fresh air can enjoy Haines City's golf courses (there are several). Polk County's rolling hills add to the enjoyment these courses provide, and the courses themselves are neither too challenging nor too difficult. Farmers markets are always enjoyable; visitors can watch oranges being graded and try out some fresh squeezed orange juice, made on site. Better yet, take some of these oranges and the orange juice back to your Haines City RV rental for enjoying later on and in the coming days.

Haines City has urban parks with water splash zones, hiking trails and picnic pavilions where guests can get crazy or relax in the perfect shade. Don't however, forget your Haines City motorhome rental in the midst of all this fun. The city has a scenic highway that makes the most of the county's rolling hills, and a relaxing ride down this majestic motorway brings with it the scent of oranges from the groves that line the road.

As the sun settles into the horizon to rest after a long day, thoughts naturally turn to food and sustenance. There are local eateries and more exotic choices at your disposal and prices range from cheap eats to moderately priced fare. Portions are large (deliberately thus), so don't be embarrassed to wrap up what you can't finish and take it home to your Haines City luxury RV rental. If you want to sample the traditional Florida food, you can start with steakhouses or seafood restaurants. The fish and other ingredients are all fresh, and the coconut shrimp tilapia is always delicious. One 60's style diner serves all-day breakfast, and the decor, from neon signs to the walls covered in 78 rpm records, will be sure to take you back in time (you could even spend the entire dinner explaining 78 rpm records to any tech-savvy children along for the Haines City travel trailer rental vacation).
