Between Memphis, Tennessee and Jackson, Mississippi, Grenada is a lively city and the seat of Grenada County. It was established on the south bank of the Yalobusha River in 1836 through the union of two adjacent towns - Pittsburg and Tullahoma.

Grenada serves as the gateway to Grenada Lake while also being within easy access of the Tallahatchie National Wildlife Refuge. Its proximity to the Civil Rights museums and legendary music studios of Jackson and Memphis make it the ideal place to rent an RV while exploring central Mississippi.

Discover Grenada

The Great Outdoors

Pick up your RV rental in Grenada and make the short drive east to the Hugh White State Park, which hugs the southern shores of Grenada Lake. It’s an incredibly popular destination for water sports, including waterskiing, canoeing, and fishing. The 64,000-acre lake is well stocked with crappie, bass, bream, and catfish, and there’s an 18-hole regulation golf course if you want to practice your swing.

Drive in the other direction, and you’ll arrive at the Tallahatchie National Wildlife Refuge, which encompasses just over 4,000 acres of land that was planted with cotton during the pre and post-Civil War years. In the winter months, the old oxbows and low-lying fields flood, attracting large numbers of waterfowl, as well as falcons, bald eagles, and terns. Follow the gravel road that traverses the southern section of the refuge while keeping your eyes peeled for birdlife, white-tailed deer, and eastern cottontail rabbits. There’s also a boardwalk and observation tower for spotting wildlife in the surrounding wetlands.

A 45-minute drive north of Grenada is Enid Lake, another local fishing destination that’s renowned for its largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and bream. You can head to George P Cossar State Park on the southern edge of the lake where you’ll find a disc golf course, an 18-hole mini-golf course, and a short nature trail, or get out on the water to go boating and waterskiing. Other places to access the lake include Riverview Recreation Area on the western shores and the Plum Point Recreation Area to the north.

RV Parks

Book a motorhome rental in Grenada and make the short drive north to the Frog Hollow Camp Ground and RV Park, which offers a range of full hookup sites that are available year-round. It’s big rig-friendly, with an on-site laundry facility and recreational hall with a kitchen, as well as offering complimentary Wi-Fi.

Or, you can drive east to the Hugh White State Park campground where there are just over 120 sites on offer. In addition to a children’s playground, picnic tables, and fire rings, the campground also has a boat launch ramp and firewood for sale.

Also nearby is the Outlet Channel State Campground, a basic but picturesque waterfront campground on the edge of Grenada Lake. There are shaded picnic tables and bathroom facilities available, as well as a playground to keep the kids entertained.

Exploring the City

Park your RV rental near Grenada and stroll through the city, stopping to learn about the role of the Belle Flower Church in the Civil Rights Movement and the musical genre known as “Grenada Blues.” Relax in picturesque Downtown Square where a mock marriage between a bride from Tullahoma and a groom from Pittsburg took place during the towns’ merging, with the event remembered through a colorful mural today.

Grenada makes a good base for visiting the capital of Mississippi, Jackson, which lies just under two hours’ drive to the south. Soak up the city’s rich Civil Rights history along the Mississippi Freedom Trail, including a stop at the elegant Old Capitol Museum. See where the African-American activist Medgar Evers once lived on a tour of his former home or spend an afternoon exploring the engaging exhibits of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. Traveling with kids? Don’t miss a visit to the Mississippi Children’s Museum or the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Lefleur’s Bluff State Park.

Or, you can make the 90-minute journey north for a day in Memphis, which is famed as the home of Elvis Presley’s “Graceland” mansion. See where he and Johnny Cash recorded albums at the iconic Sun Studio or delve into the city’s legendary music scene at the Rock 'n' Soul Museum or Blues Hall of Fame. The site of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination, the Lorraine Motel, has now been transformed into the National Civil Rights Museum and is packed with multimedia and interactive exhibits to engage all ages.

Grenada is home to numerous supermarkets where you can pick up supplies, as well as a handful of fast food restaurants and eateries for dining out. If you need to fill up your campervan rental in Grenada, there are plenty of gas stations too.

Whether you’re visiting Grenada County for its fishing lakes or Civil Rights history, book an RV in Grenada and start exploring!
