Tucked on a long, quaint island in the Puget Sound north of Seattle, Greenbank is a beautiful small community with all the draw of the United States’ Pacific Northwest. South of the Canadian border, Greenbank can only be reached by way of Route 20 through the gorgeous Deception Pass State Park or ferries from nearby towns like Mukilteo.

Flanked by the Puget Sound and the nearly-magical allure of the Pacific Ocean, Greenbank sits in the center of Whidbey Island. Considered one of the longest islands in the continental United States, Whidbey has been inhabited for generations. First by Native American tribes like the Lower Skagit, Swinomish, Suquamish and Snohomish and later by British explorers and American settlers.

Discover Greenbank

The Great Outdoors

Greenbank truly encapsulates the personality of the great Pacific Northwest. The island is dominated by beautiful parks. Never more than a few miles from the Pacific coastline, anywhere you take your Greenbank camper rental will find you just a few minutes from the rocky shore.

Drive right down to the South Whidbey State Park for some beachfront panorama views of the misty Olympic Mountains across the sound. Swim or fish in the Admiralty Inlet under the shadows of one of America’s most beloved parks. Tree and nature lovers will love the opportunity to hike over three miles of trails beneath the park’s towering giants. Iconic and ancient Sitka spruce, Douglas fir, western hemlock and western red-cedar, including a 500-year-old cedar, stand tall over the park. Sheltered and unsheltered picnic areas in the 381-acre park make for the perfect day trip.

Looking for some more fun, then head over to Earth Sanctuary toward the southern half of the island. Aptly named, the nature preserve boasts over 70 acres of natural habitats and wildlife refuge. Through the park’s hiking trails, birdwatch the over 80 different species that live and breed in the sanctuary, including waterfowl, owls and eagles. The elegant sculpture garden at the sanctuary features unique eco-art that represents the area’s long and rich history and spirituality.

Continue to embrace nature at the Rhododendron State Park. Just north of Greenbank, the park features several picnicking areas to enjoy your lunch. Several trails run through the park and three different athletic fields and a playground assures there’s something fun to do for everybody.
