If you are looking for a fantastic vacation spot in the Rocky Mountains, where you can rent an RV and tour the splendid countryside of Colorado, the small village of Granby awaits you. The town’s motto is “The heart of something grand”, a realization that becomes increasingly apparent when you arrive in Granby for the first time.

Granby was initially settled in 1904, and incorporated a year later. When you book an RV in Granby, all the soul and solitude of the majestic Rocky Mountains can be felt at all times, with hardly any intrusions from the outside world. This peaceful enclave is situated a few hours west of Denver, the capital of Colorado, and several miles from many of the region’s best parks and ski resorts. Because of its excellent location, Granby will forever be a beloved vacation spot for curious travelers and adventurous outdoors enthusiasts.

The area around Granby abounds with natural beauty at every turn, so figuring out what you want to see is half the battle. Lake Granby is the closest natural feature to Granby, with over 40 miles of stunning shoreline. You can go for a swim in the refreshing waters of Lake Granby, try your hand at fishing for some bass or trout, visit one of the world's highest altitude yacht clubs and take a boat for a spin, or even hike around the scenic lake when you bring your Granby camper rental for the day. There are a few deluxe campgrounds around the edges of the lake that are ideal for an overnight stay when you rent an RV in nearby Granby. Shadow Mountain Lake and Grand Lake are directly to the north of Lake Granby by the small town of Grand Lake and are also known for their recreation potential. Shadow Mountain Lake sits in the actual shadow of several nearby mountains and is located within Arapaho National Recreation Area. Several other lakes along with Lake Granby and Shadow Mountain Lake make up the “Great Lakes of Colorado”.

White River National Forest is named for the White River that passes through its territory and is one of Colorado’s most incredible natural features with eight wilderness areas, 12 major ski/snowboard resorts, 11 mountains over 14,000 feet tall, and well over two million acres of pristine forest. This massive swath of land is larger than several states and would take a lifetime to fully explore in depth. You can go for peaceful hikes through the woods and try your hand at finding several of the forest’s natural landmarks, like the awe-inspiring Maroon Bells which are among the most photographed mountains in Colorado. You can easily find places to camp out at when you bring your Granby RV rental with the intention of staying a few days.

It would be an absolute travesty to not visit Rocky Mountain National Park when you rent an RV in town, as it is located less than 20 minutes from Granby. This world-renowned nature park brings in over four and a half million visitors each year with its glistening, snowcapped mountains, winding hiking paths, incredible wildlife, and phenomenal campgrounds. You can observe natural waterfalls in the wide-open backcountry, or take high-quality photos from the lofty cliffs above the wildflower-filled meadows below.

RV Parks to Visit

There are lots of excellent places to camp when you rent an RV in Granby. Interestingly enough, all of the local campgrounds are public campgrounds maintained by the state or federal government, so you won’t be finding many upscale RV resorts nearby.

Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest and White River National Forest alone have dozens of suitable campgrounds you can use, as does Lake Granby mentioned above. Sunset Point, Arapaho Bay, and Grand Bay are just a few of the campgrounds you can find just minutes from town on scenic Lake Granby.

City Sightseeing

Granby is a lovely small town in the mountains of Colorado, with a laid-back vibe and lots of locally owned restaurants, cafes, and breweries to dine and drink. Although it is known primarily for its outdoor surroundings, savvy travelers just might find a few fun attractions to check out while they rent an RV in Granby. The Moffat Road Railroad Museum is housed in an old railroad depot that once ushered in both people and goods into town. This fabulous museum has lots of antique trains, informative exhibits, and model train sets to view.

Cozens Ranch House Museum was once home to some of the original settlers near Granby. There is a lot to be learned about the history of the area and the first people to start their new life in the harsh landscapes of the Rocky Mountains.

The mountains are full of amazing mountain resorts, where guests can stay in world-class accommodations, dine in luxury restaurants, see live music performances, and, of course, ski and snowboard in the rich Colorado snow. Winter Park Mountain Resort is only a short drive away and is well worth the visit if you have the time.
