Goodrich is a village in Genesee County, Michigan, a suburb of Flint, and is located in Atlas Township. It was named after Mr. Levi H. Goodrich, who traveled there from Buffalo with his wife after they had sold their home. Explorers in Pontiac told them about the environment in the area where Goodrich now stands, and after seeing it for themselves, they purchased land. The couple built a log cabin in 1836 followed by a wood frame house in 1838. A Mr. Matthew Davidson built the area's first tavern in 1846 and named it “The Goodrich House” (presumably after the community's first settlers); the tavern was popular with traders and salesman, and was owned and operated continuously by several people until it suffered a fire in 2009, after which it was torn down.
Book an RV in Genesee County, and you will be on your way to an interesting and fun vacation in one of America's most scenic outdoor environments. There are a few other communities that are also worth exploring. Burton was originally known as the Atherton Settlement, named after its first settlers who arrived in 1835; descendants of the Atherton family still live there today. Auburn Hills was established as Pontiac Township in 1821 and included the village of Auburn. Brighton has a number of shopping malls; one of the two major malls is a lifestyle center complex located on the east side of the town. Fowlerville was home to Charlie Gehringer, a baseball Hall of Famer. Owosso has three famous native sons, Frederick Carl Frieseke (whose work is exhibited in the Shiawassee Arts Center exhibits), Thomas Dewey, and author James Oliver Curwood whose former home is now a museum. Your Goodrich travel trailer rental is how you will discover this historic area.
Kelly Lake Park is a cultivated urban outdoor area that is popular with residents. Guests can come here to swim on the beach or go fishing; there is a boat launch and a pier that anglers can fish from. The park is also a good area for walking, nature observation, and photography. A pavilion can be rented for group outings, or visitors can picnic in the open area.
For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum is a multi-use outdoor environment where visitors can enjoy the exhibits in the visitor center (including live animals), take a leisurely stroll through the gardens, or get out and active on the miles of trails available. The preserve, a former dairy farm taken over in 1970, consists of meadows, ponds, and tree stands and has handicap accessible areas. Park your Goodrich camper rental nearby, and you can relax between outdoor activities, enjoying the best of both worlds.
Indian Springs Metropark is an outdoor urban recreation area with both developed and undisturbed areas. Guests can learn about the region in the Environmental Discovery Area which has an underwater pond viewing room or stretch their legs on a paved hiking and cycling path. There are many more soft trails that wind through wetlands and meadows, offering views of the Huron River. Lucky visitors might hear or spy the local wildlife, such as coyotes and red foxes, and there are horseshoes, volleyball, a climbing wall, and much more.
There are a large number of RV parks and campgrounds near Goodrich, and some of them may have mobile homes. Your Goodrich RV trailer rental is your assurance that your vacation will be comfortable and relaxing no matter where you stay.
Clearwater Campground is a family owned and operated RV park with trees, a lagoon and fountain, and a petting zoo. The park has restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, and a sandy beach and playground. There is a trail for hiking that circles the spring-fed lake and boat rentals are available. Most of the sites have full hookups while a handful are primitive, and there is some tent camping in the park.
There is a lot to see and do in Goodrich. There are farmers' markets with farm produce, meat, and cheeses, and even unique craft-style gifts; the only thing better is heading straight to the farm, and there are a few that welcome visitors. There are urban parks and water parks for those hot summer days, and an art institute and vintage antique mall. Those who would like to just kick their feet up (and have probably earned it) can check out the local breweries, take in a movie, or check out a local used book store. While deciding what to do (or what not to do), don't forget to take your Goodrich motorhome rental for a spin on the local highways. Driving an RV has been known to instill a feeling of freedom; this is your chance to experience that feeling for yourself.
When the dinner hour rolls around, Goodrich has a more than adequate supply of eateries that should make everyone happy. One cafe diner has most of the comfort foods you can think of, with just a minor tweak, such as their pulled pork mac 'n' cheese or their prime rib sandwiches. There is a selection of beers on tap that is rotated regularly and a good variety of wine options too. Another local venue specializes in barbecue and burgers but also has a broasted chicken on the menu. The food and presentation are good and arrive with huge side dishes, such as the still crackling pork rinds (hot off the grill and not what you would find in convenience stores). The venue is small, so takeout is an option, as is taking your leftovers home to your Goodrich luxury RV rental for a late-night snack. This is vacation living at its best.
