Patapsco Valley State Park is one of the most well-known parks in the state, recognized as the first state park in Maryland. There are sandy riverfront beaches, picnic shelters, nature trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, and an assortment of campsites where you can park the Glenelg camper rental. Even kayaking on Clopper Lake can be quite magical if you like admiring sunsets from the middle of the lake. There are over 50 miles of hiking trails on-site, and a 27-hole disc golf course too.

It might not be in Maryland, but Shenandoah National Park is a lush nature park just over the border in Virginia that will captivate you and make you want to extend your trip. Nearly half the park is designated wilderness area, while the most traveled areas remain centered around the famous Skyline Drive that cuts through the park from north to south. The Skyline Drive is one of the best driving roads in the world, riding the ridge line of the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains for nearly 100 miles. Mesmerizing night skies and unbelievable fall foliage make this a must-see destination no matter the time of year.
