Gillett is a small town in Karnes County, TX, with many of the town’s services provided by Karnes County and Karnes City. The town was first settled in the mid-1800s. A local businessman dammed a creek to power mills for his businesses. The town grew from there. It was eventually renamed in 1905 to honor E.G. Gillet, a local newspaper proprietor.

The town is located in Southeast Texas. As such, the climate is humid and subtropical. The summers are hot and humid with winters being fairly mild. Snow is very uncommon as far south as the city. Gillett is only a short drive to the coast, though; the climate there is much milder throughout the summer.

Gillett is about a one hour drive from San Antonio, about an hour from Victoria, and less than two hours from Austin. Those that book an RV in Gillett, with a goal to visit the coast can reach the ocean also in about one hour.
