The city of Fort Lupton is located in Weld County, Colorado, but it should not be confused with Fort Lupton, a historical site that is located northwest of the city. The historical fort is part of the South Platte Valley Historical Park, which was recreated by the South Platte Valley Historical Society (the park and the society both take their name from the South Platte River). The historical fort, first named Fort Lawrence, was established by Lawrence Lupton, a West Point graduate, and lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Built in 1836, it served as a trading post before being abandoned in 1844; it remained abandoned until 1859 when it was used as a stagecoach station for the Gold Rush. Following the Gold Rush, it was claimed by the Ewing family and used as a residence for a time, before finally falling into disrepair. By the time it was reclaimed by the South Platte Valley Historical Society, only a single wall of the original adobe building remained. Today the city's motto is “Where tradition meets the future”.

RV rentals in Weld County are a perfect match for this rugged mountainous environment. Some other cities nearby are also interesting and worth checking out. Longmont was created by a group of Chicago men who sold their vision of a planned town they called “The Chicago-Colorado Colony” but later renamed Longmont, after Long Mountain which can be seen in the distance. Johnstown is a home rule community that exists in both Weld County and Larimer County. Wiggins, originally named Corona, was renamed after Oliver Wiggins, a longtime companion of Old West icon Kit Carson. Hudson was named after the Hudson City Land and Improvement Co, even though the Hudson Post office was established much earlier. Westminster was originally named Harris and more commonly known as Darrell Park but had its name changed one final time upon incorporation in 1911. A Fort Lupton travel trailer rental is how you explore this vast region in comfort and style.

The Great Outdoors

Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is an urban area tasked to protecting eagles and numerous other animal species. It consists of lakes and wetlands, woodlands, and prairie grasslands, which collectively provide a home for bird species such as raptors, ducks and geese, and animals such as bison, prairie dogs, cottontail rabbits, and even reptile species. The area was first farmland, then a war-time manufacturing site before finally becoming a sanctuary. Visitors can participate in educational programs, hike and fish, or take a self-guided auto tour in their Fort Lupton RV rental.

Barr Lake State Park is a protected recreational usage area where visitors can hike, mountain bike, or ride horseback along the trail that encircles the lake. The park is home to 350 bird species, including bald eagles which nest there in the winter. The lake is open for canoeing and kayaking, and fishing enthusiasts can try catching channel catfish, rainbow trout, and more.

The nearby golf course was designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 2007. It emphasizes and incorporates the surrounding landscape, right down to the choice of native grasses on its greens and fairways. It has a premium casual dining restaurant on site once you have finished your round.
