Fort Cobb is a town in Caddo County, Oklahoma, that was established in 1899 as simply “Cobb” (it was later renamed Fort Cobb in honor of the nearby Fort encampment that had by then been abandoned). It depended on agriculture to supply its economy during the first half of the 20th century, as well as on a railroad from Chickasha to Magnum to move its product to market.

Book an RV in Caddo County, and you are ready for an adventure. While you are here, consider exploring some other nearby communities. Weatherford is host to a manufacturing plant owned by Kodak and a number of oil and natural gas companies. Kingfisher is home to the founders of Walmart, James “Bud” Walton and Sam Walton. Chickasha was the home of a U.S. Army Air Force flying school during World War II. Lawton has many annual events and festivals, such as the Prince of Peace Easter passion play, the Arts for All Festival (in May) and the International Festival (in late September). Hobart is the birthplace of Oklahoma Poet Laureate Jeanetta Calhoun Mish. Your Fort Cobb travel trailer rental is how you will experience this unique and historic area.

The Great Outdoors

Fort Cobb State Park is a cultivated outdoor recreation area centered around Fort Cobb Lake. The park has a marina where guests can buy bait and other supplies and rent boats. There is a restaurant for those who would prefer someone else catch their lunch or dinner. Anglers can fish for white and largemouth bass, catfish, and other varieties. It is an ideal location for swimming and has picnic pavilions, several playgrounds, and comfort stations. There are an RV campground and an 18-hole golf course.

Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge was created in 1901 and is fortunate to have survived urbanization; a mixed-grass prairie with rock substrata saved it from being developed for agricultural purposes. Its mandate was and is to provide refuge for wildlife species that had almost become extinct or were driven out of the area. Elk, wild turkey, and bison were the first to be reintroduced, followed later by prairie dogs, river otters, and burrowing owls. Today it is home for numerous mammal, bird, reptile, and fish species, along with hundreds of flower species. The refuge has miles of trails for hiking, wildlife viewing, and photography, and staff members conduct guided tours and educational activities. Park your Fort Cobb RV trailer rental nearby, and you can use it as a wildlife viewing blind while comfortably enjoying your morning coffee.

Lake Chickasha is an additional water resource that was developed in the 1950s and provides drinking water and recreational opportunities. The park has restrooms with showers, picnic areas with tables, and much more. Visitors can camp overnight, go hiking, waterskiing, or swimming, or just relax on a park bench and take in the incredible scenery.

Exploring The City

Fort Cobb is a scenic area with great outdoor amenities. Visitors coming here for the first time will want to check out a local marina where they can relax and enjoy the spectacular sunsets. The town is not that big, making it easy to take a walking tour and check out the architecture, especially of the churches. This would be a good destination for window shopping and browsing. Don't forget to take your Fort Cobb motorhome rental for a spin around the local highways and countryside.

When dinnertime rolls around, Fort Cobb has a small but reliable selection of restaurants with more options farther out. One drive-in restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and is situated in a quaint older building. It has a typical 1950's style of food and ambiance, with hamburgers, ice cream floats, and the works. Guests dining here should try the kraut dog and fried pickles; customers can eat in or ask for takeout to enjoy at the beach or their Fort Cobb luxury RV rental. Nothing says vacation like enjoying great food under the hot sun (or shaded tree) in the open air.
