Forsyth is a city in Monroe County, Georgia, and was named after former Georgia Governor John Forsyth, who also served Presidents Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren as their Secretary of State. The city was created in 1823 and became county seat that same year, taking the title from Johnstonville.
