Firestone is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, incorporated in 1908. It is well known for its numerous parks and miles upon miles of recreational trails, one of which follows the old railroad tracks that made the coal industry possible. It remained a small town until 2000 when the population increased its previous size by 450 percent in a decade.

RV rentals in Weld County are your ticket to the enticing outdoors of the county and the rest of Colorado. Other nearby cities worth having a look at are Mead, Platteville, Hudson, Broomfield, and Boulder. Boulder has been described as “The Happiest City in the U.S.” by National Geographic and is a short trip from many of Colorado's world-class ski resorts; your Firestone RV rental is your invitation to these destinations.

The Great Outdoors

Rocky Mountain National Park is a protected environment with sub-alpine and alpine plant and animal life. Mountain elevations reach 12,000 feet and there are hundreds of miles of well-kept trails with information posts providing up to date information on trail conditions and things to watch out for (such as ice and slippery conditions).

Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grasslands combine territories to create a protected recreational area that allows visitors to enjoy the wilderness while at the same time minimizing the impact on the vegetation and wildlife. There are many trails to choose from, but larger and overnight groups are required to obtain permits before embarking on their journey. Visitors can go hiking and biking, rock climbing, and more. There are opportunities to view nature up close and learn about the environment, and the park is a treasure for those interested in rocks and minerals.

Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is also a protected environment, consisting of prairie and wetland terrain, and woodland habitat. Prior to becoming a sanctuary, it was farmland and then later a manufacturing site for wartime necessities. In the 1980s, efforts were made to reclaim and restore the area, and they were successful. Today the refuge is home to bison, waterfowl and an astoundingly diverse list of animals, and your Firestone motorhome rental is the perfect photography blind to capture images from.

RV Parks

There aren't many RV campgrounds directly within Firestone city limits or on its periphery, but there are quite a few within a short distance of the city. Most of the RV campgrounds here have at least electricity plus restrooms and showers; many of them have pull-through and big rig access. Activities you will find include fishing and swimming, and some campgrounds offer access to recreational trails for hiking and biking. Some of the campgrounds allow tent camping in addition to RV units. Your Firestone RV trailer rental is perfectly suited to Colorado's environment and the beginning of this breathtaking adventure.

St. Vrain State Park has a smaller RV campground with gravel interior roads and ponds where you can fish. The individual RV sites are gravel with concrete pads and have either full hookups or just electrical outlets (about half and half). They also have fire rings and picnic tables. The campground is next to the St. Vrain River and Wetlands, which makes for some interesting exploration, and it is pet-friendly. Reservations are required.

Boyd Lake State Park has a larger campground with asphalt and gravel sites and laundry facilities. It has a playground and access to a nearby lake. The facility is child and pet-friendly.

Exploring The City

Firestone likes its festivities and is not averse to sharing them; the city holds civic events on a regular basis and tourists are as welcome to join in as the citizens. The city has numerous urban parks, many of them with paved trails that aren't difficult at all, and shelters throughout the park where nature buffs can stop to rest or simply gaze at the spectacular scenery. Visitors wishing to take home souvenirs of the clothing variety will rejoice at the abundance of shopping malls where they can browse and shop to their heart's content. Don't forget to include your Firestone travel trailer rental in the souvenir photos you are bound to take.

When the fun has ended and it is time to recharge the calories, Firestone is not lacking in the commercial culinary department. Prices in the city range from cheap eats to moderately priced fare and fine dining, so the only question is how much do you want to spend? (It is your vacation, after all.) Firestone has its share of fast food restaurants including at least one chain restaurant serving up spicy chicken that never disappoints. Other cuisines on hand are Chinese, Italian and Thai; in addition to pad thai, patrons can enjoy coconut soup or a spicy chicken soup. A cup of the soup of the day can be had while you wait for your meal to be prepared. Of course, it is always good to try the local cuisine when you can and Firestone is home to one cafe specializing in soups, a pub-style restaurant, and a barbecue joint dishing out brisket and Brunswick stew, a tomato-based soup with vegetables, beans and small game such as pheasant or quail.

If you are tired and as interested in quiet and solitude as you are in your meal, perhaps a home cooked meal is in order. There are numerous grocery stores in the northern area of the city, mostly local and well stocked; grab some supplies and head back to your Firestone luxury RV rental to throw something together. It doesn't need to be fancy, and what could be more relaxing than dining under a star-filled sky?
