Once known as the county seat of Campbell County before being absorbed by Fulton County during the Great Depression, Fairburn is a small town on the fringes of Georgia’s largest metro area. This small, pleasant community named after Fairburn in England, is just down the road from Atlanta, and it’s connected to the state capital by Interstate 85. Fairburn was once a thriving hub of commerce due to its advantageous positioning on the Atlanta & West Point Railroad.

Fairburn is mostly a bedroom/commuter community for the much larger city of Atlanta in the present day and age. Despite this, it has retained its charm and character over the years, remaining a vibrant vacation destination as well as a great place to rent an RV to take on a series of mini-trips throughout the state. The Georgia Renaissance Festival is held each spring in the town of Fairburn, a beloved occasion that helps bring together both locals and travelers from afar to celebrate and enjoy the fabulous weather.

The Great Outdoors

There are many reasons why you should book an RV in Fairburn, but close to the top of that list are the spectacular outdoor areas of the Peach State. This southern jewel is teeming with wilderness areas and outdoor recreation parks, making it an excellent place to take a road trip with a Fairburn RV rental. Sweetwater Creek State Park is a short drive north of Fairburn, and an ideal place to start your trip on the right foot. This fascinating park was once a native indigenous settlement occupied by the Cherokee before they were forcibly removed. The settlement was then built up as a town surrounding a textile mill which was, in turn, razed to the ground during the Civil War. Since 1972, Sweetwater Creek State Park has been a conservation area with rich biodiversity and ample space for recreation. There is a large swimming lake and also some campsites, a few hiking trails, and a visitor center where you can learn about the park’s nature and history.

Chattahoochee Bend State Park is another place you might want to check out when you rent an RV near Fairburn. The park is named for the Chattahoochee River that flows along its northern edge. You can kayak or canoe down the river, go for a swim, or fish for dinner to cook over a campfire. Orienteering and geocaching are popular pastimes in the park’s woods, and there is a bevy of campsites near the water that you can utilize when you bring your Fairburn camper rental. West Point Lake is located farther south, created by the West Point Dam. This human-made lake spills over the Georgia-Alabama state line and is one of the most popular summertime recreation spots in the south. There are dozens of small parks, recreation areas, day use areas, and campgrounds along the lake, most of which allow camping.

There are no national parks in the state, but you can still see some incredible sights in the Oconee National Forest located south of Athens and approximately halfway between Atlanta and Augusta. The forest is home to two major lakes, Lake Sinclair and Lake Oconee. Both lakes have their fair share of recreation areas surrounding them, and there are ample camping spots to properly make use of your Fairburn motorhome rental. Boating, fishing, and swimming in these lakes are great ways to cool off in the scorching Georgia summer, and hiking, horseback riding, ATV riding, and dirt biking are fun ways to explore the woods.

RV Parks

You shouldn’t have much to worry about when it comes to finding a campground to visit with your Fairburn camper rental, as there seems to be no shortage of them in the state. Chattahoochee Bend State Park, for instance, is not only a fun place to visit, but it could be a great place to spend the night. There are cabins, tent sites, and RV spaces with restrooms and showers. The best part of staying at this state park is the 3,000 acres of land you can hike and explore.
