A nice change of pace from the water features in the area is the Elk Grove Wildlife Management Area. This space consists of 1,600 acres of land, much of which is dense forests and beautiful groves, and it can be explored during most of the year. The two types of animals hunted here during the different seasons are turkey and deer.

Exploring the City

Exira City Park lies in the center of town, and the gazebo in the park is often the center for local events and music performances. On the north edge of town lies the Exira Fairgrounds which are home to the annual local fair that draws visitors from many towns over. The fairgrounds can be a great place to view animals and local crafts, and when the fair isn’t in session, they make for a nice place to walk and stretch your legs if you’ve been driving all day. Near to the fairgrounds is the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, which is one of a handful of churches in town that are worth seeing if you appreciate mid-western architecture.

North of town, on Highway 71, is Greenbrier Country Club. This country club offers a fun golf experience and a great way to get some exercise on your outdoor trip while having a good time. The holes are backdropped by the Great Plains, and the short distance from Exira makes this an easy stop for a day outing. If you prefer to stay in town and explore you’ll find most of the shops, and restaurants on Washington Street.
