Everson, Washington is a quaint little town on the banks of the Nooksack River that’s retained much of its charm even as many of the small communities around it have urbanized. The Dutch settled it in the late 1800s with the intent of raising dairy cows in the green pastures near the base of the Cascade Range. That Dutch influence can still be seen today in the architecture of many of the houses and churches in town. In the ensuing years, the timber and paper industry became prominent employers, followed by a boom in fruit and berry production by small farms.

One of the best times to visit is mid-July when the Summer Festival takes place, and the main street is lined with craft vendors and delicious food. If you want to experience small-town living in the most beautiful of settings, book an RV in Everson.

The Great Outdoors

There’s so much to enjoy outside near Everson it’s hard to choose what to do first. Whatcom Falls Park is one of the most popular attractions thanks to its location near Bellingham and the relatively easy hike to access it. The trails surrounding the falls take about an hour or less to complete, and there’s a nice grassy area and a playground that make this the perfect place for a family picnic.

Lake Padden Park is just outside of Bellingham and is a great place to rent a kayak and paddle around for a few hours. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout in the early spring, so be sure to pick up the proper fishing license to do some angling while you’re here.

If you love climbing high peaks but hate the crowds of some of the more popular mountains in Washington, you’re going to love North Cascades National Park. Despite its proximity to outdoor adventure-loving Seattle, North Cascades doesn’t see too many tourists, perhaps because the park remains mostly undeveloped. However, you’ll find dozens of fantastic hiking trails here, one of which climbs to the top of Desolation Peak, which inspired the Jack Kerouac book Desolation Angels when he was a fire lookout there.

RV Parks

Hidden Village RV Park and Campground is probably the closest campground you’ll find when getting a motorhome rental in Everson. It’s fairly close to Bellingham and has good access to Interstate 5, so you’ll have no trouble getting down to Seattle if the big city is part of your vacation itinerary. Their sites have full hookups, but even more impressive are the heated swimming pool, fitness center, and kitchen facilities that make the campground feel more like a luxury resort.

Another choice to set up camp with a travel trailer rental near Everson is the Sumas RV Park just south of the Canadian border. Sites there have full hookups and some fantastic views of the Cascade Range. If you’re thinking about taking any trips north to British Columbia’s Fraser Valley, this could be an excellent place to set up camp.

If you’re looking for an amenity-packed camping experience, you might also like the Lynden/Bellingham KOA that’s just a little north of town. When you rent an RV and camp here, you’ll have access to full hookups, a swimming pool during the summer months, a mini-golf course, and a small fishing pond.

Exploring the City

For visitors who are curious about the area’s past when visiting with a camper rental in Everson, the Lynden Pioneer Museum is a fascinating place to brush up on some history. It houses a diverse set of artifacts from the late 19th century up through the modern era, including horse-drawn carriages, steam tractors, and even a replica of a small town main street. This museum is well done and can be an interesting stop for travelers who hope to learn more about the area’s history.

Another can’t-miss place in Lynden is the Jansen Art Center, one of the best galleries north of Seattle. Not only does it contain some world-class exhibits of photography, sculpture, and paintings, but they also have dance performances to watch and art workshops to help you release some of your very own creative juices. If you’re looking for culture when you get an RV rental in Everson, this is the place to visit.

For those with an engineer or scientist’s disposition, the SPARK Museum of Electrical Invention in nearby Bellingham is sure to delight. Interactive exhibits showcase the technical aspects of generating electricity and its enormous impact on society. The Megazapper Exhibit also allows participants to step into the “Cage of Doom” where they can (safely) be blasted with electricity from the nation’s largest Tesla Coil – certainly not your average museum experience.
