Discover Eustis

Experience the Sites and Scenery

Since at least the 1930s, people have enjoyed going to Lake Eustis. It’s essentially a year-round outdoor resort. This 7,000-acre, spring-fed lake is full of fish. The bass are usually biting, but don’t touch the pupfish. Since Cyprinodon variegatus hubbsi is unique to Central Florida, the state wildlife commission closely monitors the welfare of these animals. Lake Eustis is also a good place for sailing, as there are multiple boat slips on the quiet shore. Speaking of the shore, take your Eustis rental RV to lakeside communities like Tavares. These places offer lots of dining opportunities as well as golf courses.

The nearby Pine Meadows Conservation Area just opened in May 2018. Birders flock to this spot (no pun intended) in their Eustis RV rentals to see over one hundred different species, including rare ones like Henslow’s sparrows, bald eagles, blue-winged warblers, and swallow-tailed kites. There are also over six miles of trails, including a pet-friendly loop trail. Other amenities include picnic areas, a boat/kayak launch, and restrooms.

Trimble Park is in nearby Mt. Dora, which is a quaint little town known for its antique shops and many street festivals. The park is on a narrow strip of land between Lake Beauclair and Lake Carlton. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The park itself is a nice place for a group barbecue or a camping excursion. It’s quite large and offers very scenic views of both lakes. There are several large pavilions that have play areas for the kids. Be advised that there’s no swimming in the lake and the mosquitoes come out in force at dusk.

Lake County Parks & Trails sounds like a name above a door in an office building. But it’s actually a nice trail park near Lake Idamere. Just drive your Eustis motorhome rental a little bit south of Highway 448.

City Attractions

The Eustis Historical Museum is in the Clifford House. Guilford Davis Clifford made plans for the house in 1894, but three freezes in two years delayed construction until 1910. Check out the Laundry Room to see how people cleaned clothes in the 1880s and 1960s. The Clifford House is also a popular place for weddings and formal parties. If you prefer contemporary structures, try the Lake Eustis Museum of Art, which opened in 1995. It was Lake County’s first visual art museum. The award-winning museum highlights local artists and features classes for both children and adults.

What’s Unique

When you rent an RV in Eustis, you soak up more of the local culture. And that’s what short or long-term vacations are all about. It’s fun to experience places like Central Florida. People from literally all over the world come together, where they share their stories and experiences. That environment presents an opportunity you won’t find in too many other places.

Where to Park It

The Olde Mill Stream RV Resort is in Umatilla. This family-owned park designed for visitors over 55 has more than 400 sites. Charming lampposts set the ideal mood for an evening stroll to the lakeside gazebo. During the day, visitors enjoy fishing and other activities, including community events. Or, you may want to keep your Eustis motorhome rental at the Harris Creek RV Village, which is down the road in Leesburg. Two WiFi hotspots serve the park. All of the hookup sites have concrete slabs, and most of them are extremely well-shaded. It’s a very secluded country park that’s only three miles away from many shopping and dining opportunities.

The Food

Eustis draws people from all over, and they bring their food with them. Fish is always on the menu, and pretty much every family has a slightly different way to prepare it. In fact, some locals say that you can have seafood every night for a month and never have the same meal twice.
