With an enviable climate, Englewood is a paradise for outdoor pursuits, making it an ideal location to rent an RV. From swimming and snorkeling to hiking and mountain biking, its surrounding parks and nature reserves offer endless opportunities to get out and explore. It’s also a hub for wildlife, with regular sightings of dolphins and manatees along the coast, not to mention a myriad of birdlife and underwater species.

Discover Englewood

The Great Outdoors

Pick up your motorhome rental in Englewood and drive to the Lemon Bay Park and Environmental Center, which encompasses 210 acres of black mangrove forest and scrublands. It includes a butterfly garden and interpretive nature trail that can be walked independently or during one of the regular guided activities. The park stretches along the shores of the Lemon Bay Aquatic Preserve - a marine life-filled reserve that can be explored while kayaking or beachcombing.

If you want to stretch your legs, head east to the Myakka State Forest, which sprawls across more than 8,500 acres on the edge of the Myakka River. Its pine and palmetto forests are crisscrossed by hiking and mountain biking trails that offer access to riverfront campsites and fishing spots. It’s also a popular birdwatching destination, with a vast number of waders, such as egrets, cranes, and spoonbills frequenting the area.

Another scenic destination not to miss is the Don Pedro Island State Recreation Area, which protects wildlife-rich mangrove forests, dunes, and pristine beaches on a picture-perfect barrier island. It’s only accessible by boat and is best visited on a guided nature excursion, with the opportunity to get up close to loggerhead turtles that regularly haul themselves onto the beaches. Swimming and snorkeling are also popular on the Gulf side of Don Pedro Island while hiking trails traverse the land-based section of the park on the Cape Haze Peninsula.

RV Parks

Pick up your camper rental in Englewood and drive north to the Ramblers Rest RV Resort, which lies along the Myakka River in Venice. It features an outdoor pool, hot tub, and fitness center, as well as a children’s playground, picnic tables, and laundry facilities.

Also nearby in Port Charlotte is the Harbor Lakes RV Resort, a pet-friendly RV destination that has a range of recreational courts, a fitness center, and a games room. Mingle with other guests in the swimming pool and hot tub or take advantage of the on-site laundry and library facilities.

Englewood is home to a number of supermarkets where you can stock up on supplies and plenty of eateries for dining out. There are also numerous gas stations if you need to fill up your RV rental in Englewood and a Walmart Supercenter where you may be able to set up camp for a night with the manager’s permission. Or, you can make the 40-minute drive north to the bustling city of Sarasota which offers a more extensive range of services.

Exploring the City

Park your RV rental near Englewood and explore this beachside town on foot, beginning at Buchan’s Landing Site where Peter Buchan set up one of the settlement’s first businesses in 1913. Wander down Dearborn Street past the old Chapin Grocery Store and the Englewood Hardware Store, then admire the Prairie-style Lemon Bay Women’s Club that was designed by a pupil of Frank Lloyd Wright, Clare Hosmer.

Just to the south lies the Indian Mound Park, an archaeological site that was inhabited by indigenous Manasota people between 1000 B.C. and 1350 A.D. Points and arrowheads made from quartz have been uncovered here, along with shell tools, shark teeth, and animal bones. In addition to its well-preserved shell midden that is a testament to the area’s Native American legacy, the park is home to walking trails and boat launches for accessing Lemon Bay.

A short drive across the water takes you to Chadwick Park at Englewood Beach, a popular recreational area with a children’s playground, volleyball, and basketball courts. Enjoy a stroll along the boardwalk or just kick back beneath a beach umbrella and chairs from the rental vendor. In addition to swimming, the park is a popular birdwatching destination and also frequented by anglers trying their luck at the various fishing spots.

Whether you’re visiting Sarasota County for its beautiful beaches or island reserves, book an RV in Englewood and start your next adventure.
