Though this is primarily farm country, there are plenty of options to explore. The nearby Rocky Ridge Park, an old-growth oak forest, has several miles -of multi-use trails, a couple of which lead to observation decks for a panoramic view of the York Valley. Note: the multi-use trails are closed to bicycles and horses during the wet season (typically late winter, early spring).

Another great option to head to is Chickies Rock County Park, which overlooks the Susquehanna River, for easy hikes, riverside fishing, and views. The Chickies Rock is the start -- or the end, depending on your preference -- of the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail, a 15-mile multi-use trail that follows the contours of the river.

If your goal is solitude and quiet, hop into your Emigsville travel trailer rental and head west to Michaux State Forest, one of the largest parks in south-central Pennsylvania. Both deer and small-game hunting are permitted here, though you must obtain a license and follow the regulations. There are several small lakes and ponds peppered throughout its borders that offer a variety of recreational activities like primitive camping, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, and snowmobiling. Over 130 miles of trails wind through mature woods. RV camping is allowed, though you must obtain a free permit from the ranger.
