A small prairie town about 35 miles northeast of Colorado Springs, the majority of Elbert, Colorado was swept away by a flood in 1935. Several smaller floods occurred in the following years, and it took the town an extremely long time to recover. Today, Elbert remains a friendly and hospitable cattle-ranching community. Elbert is a humble town with a very small population. There’s not much to do in this small town besides enjoy the beautiful scenery, but the surrounding areas do offer some entertainment. Kiowa, a small community a few miles outside of Elbert features the Elbert County Museum — a museum dedicated to preserving the area’s past through folk tales and artifacts from earlier days.

Ready to put your cardio to the test? Check out the Manitou Incline less than an hour outside of Elbert in Manitou Springs. The Manitou Incline is a hiking trail for people from all walks (or hikes) of life. This iconic trail gains nearly 2,000 feet of elevation in less than a mile and is considered an advanced hike. After climbing 2,744 steps, you will reach the summit where you can snap a picture and soak in the views.
