The Great Outdoors

Contra Costa County is home to hundreds of miles of multi-functional trails which traverse a wide variety of terrains, from floodplains to snow-capped peaks and everything in between. There couldn’t be a better place to rent an RV and get outside. The county is also home to three official state parks. The most famous of these is Mount Diablo State Park which is located approximately 35 miles to the east.

Although the main attraction of Mount Diablo State Park is its impressive peak, this 20,000-acre state park also offers visitors miles of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails. Plus, there are waterfalls and lush forest scenery. A full-day loop trail will take you from the South Gate entrance to Mount Diablo’s peak. For an easier trip, you can begin the hike at Juniper Campground. The route offers stunning views over Livermore Valley as well as the opportunity to explore the sandstone sculptures in Rock City and visit the Mount Diablo Summit Museum. It is also possible to drive from the South Gate entrance to the visitor center.

Slightly north of Mount Diablo State Park is the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. Opened to the public in 1970, this 6,000-acre space combines California’s mining industry with its charming scenery. Originally home to Native American Indians, the land became a major agricultural area for foreign settlers during the late 1700s before being taken over by the coal and sand mining industries. Today, the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve offers 65 miles of scenic trails through a mixture of woodland, chaparral, and meadows as well as underground mine tours.

After admiring the views and trails, you can take your El Sobrante RV rental by owner northeast to Franks Tract State Recreation Area. This is one of the lesser-known outdoor attractions of Contra Costa County. This unique recreational area is only accessible by water, it covers the delta between Bethel Island and False River, southeast of Brannan Island. Taking a boat along the reed-lined waterways, you can find a great range of birdlife, including kingfishers, great blue herons, and swallows.

RV Parks

The best thing about having a luxury RV rental in El Sobrante is that, after a fun day of exploring, you can snuggle up inside your own mobile lodging. Before you go to sleep though, you’ll need to choose a safe place to park.

There are a few RV parks located just minutes outside of El Sobrante town center. A few miles north and just off the Interstate 80 is Rodeo Mobile Home & RV Park, which offers concrete pads with access to full (electric, water, sewage) hookups, cable TV and on-site Wi-Fi. The site also provides pull-through sites and washing facilities. It is family and pet-friendly, plus it’s just a few blocks from entertainment facilities, eateries, and a public park.

Additionally, there are RV parks in the outskirts of Concord. If you would prefer to park your El Sobrante camper rental farther from the city lights then head to Juniper Campground in Mount Diablo State Park. It’s a tranquil spot for star gazing at night, however, you’ll need to pick up food, water, and gas in Walnut Creek. On-site, there are basic toilet and washing facilities.

Explore the City

If it's shopping that you’re looking for, then leave your camper rental near El Sobrante and head to one of the two shopping complexes on the outskirts of town. These shopping malls host a wide variety of modern shops as well as fast food outlets and large supermarkets.

To get back to nature, drive your El Sobrante RV trailer rental south to Wildcat Canyon or east to Sobrante Ridge Regional Preserve. Both outdoor areas are just a few miles from the town center.
