The Great Outdoors

When you search for an RV in Franklin County, you’ll find that the area is often referred to as Florida’s Forgotten Coast. The reason is that it’s one of the few — if not the only — stretches of beach along the Gulf coast that hasn’t been overrun by strip malls and high-rise buildings. Because of its “forgotten” nature, Eastpoint is an awesome place for saltwater fishing. The nutrient-rich and shallow waters of the bay provide the ideal habitat for a variety of marine life, and that means that game fish are plentiful in the area. When you book a camper rental in Eastpoint, you can choose from numerous hot spots. There are barrier islands, wetlands, the Apalachicola River basin, oyster bars, seagrass flats, artificial reefs, and sea flats. It’s truly an angler’s paradise. Just bring your rod and reel, a cold drink, a wide-brimmed hat, and see what you pull up.

Another neat place if you love the outdoors is the National Estuarine Research Reserve and Visitor Center. Thought by many to be one of Florida’s best research and education facilities, you can learn about the diverse plants and animals of the Apalachicola River and Bay with the help of the 5,400-square-foot nature center. Inside, you’ll find giant tanks filled with shellfish, reptiles, and fish. You can also explore the boardwalk that traverses the nature center’s 28 acres.

Stretch your legs at Tate’s Hell State Forest. The 202,437-acre forest sits between the Apalachicola and Ochlockonee Rivers and supports a wide range of communities, including wet prairie, floodplain forest, basin swamp, pine ridges, and more. In the forest, there are 35 miles of rivers, creeks, and streams for boating, canoeing, and fishing. There are also primitive campsites scattered throughout the forest. Most sites are situated along the river banks with boat access and fishing opportunities, making Tate’s Hell State Forest the perfect place if you want to get away and unwind when you book a motorhome rental in Eastpoint.

RV Parks

Looking for a place to stay when you rent a motorhome in Eastpoint? There are several places in the surrounding area. One option is Coastline RV Resort. This five-star facility has 30 RV sites with full hookups, a brick paver patio, a picnic table, and a grill. There is a clubhouse with a fitness center, a fully equipped kitchen, game and activities room, Wi-Fi and cable, and a large screened-in porch with rocking chairs. Freshen up in the bathhouse with enclosed showers and secluded changing stations. In addition to the shower facilities, there are two private family restroom/showers. Campground amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, laundry facilities, and a bark park.

Another option in Port Saint Joe is Indian Pass Campground. The campground has several sites with partial hookups, many of which are located on the banks of the Apalachicola Bay and Indian Pass. The campground has a laundromat, restrooms with hot showers, and a camp store. A great place for water lovers, the campground is ideal for fishing, has a boat ramp with access to the Indian Pass, access to local beaches, boat charters, and even has a dog-friendly beach. Though the sites don’t have sewer hookups, there is an on-site dump station.

Exploring the City

St. George Island Lighthouse is a two-story reconstructed lighthouse that boasts panoramic views of the ocean, a history museum, and a gift shop. The lighthouse was originally built in 1833 and reconstructed in 1848 and 1852. In 2005, the lighthouse collapsed and tumbled into the Gulf of Mexico and was reconstructed in 2008. If you happen to visit on the eve of a full moon, the lighthouse hosts Full Moon Climbs where you can see the sun set and the full moon rise from the top of the lighthouse.

Orman House Historic State Park in Apalachicola features a gorgeous antebellum home and a stunning botanical garden overlooking a charming coastal village. The house, which was built in 1838, was used for social and business gatherings and overlooks the Apalachicola River. The house was constructed by Thomas Orman, who helped transform the small town of Apalachicola into one of the most important cotton-exporting areas during the 19th century. The adjoining Chapman Botanical Gardens features a butterfly garden, walkways, open spaces, and other botanical features.

You can learn about the area’s maritime history at the Apalachicola Maritime Museum. Built to celebrate and preserve the area’s rich maritime heritage, while here, there are various hands-on experiences, including adventure programs, boating excursions, boat building and restoration, and education programs. You can also take educational and recreational boat tours such as sunset cruises, sailing programs, kayak trips, and more. The museum has two locations — one in Apalachicola and another in Chattahoochee.

There's fresh seafood, unspoiled beaches, and endless charm. You won't go wrong when you book an RV rental in Eastpoint.
