Most visitors to Nashville come for its amazing nightlife and entertainment, but what if you’d like to experience the best of both big-city attractions and quiet, relaxing countryside? When you book an RV in Dickson, you can have just that. Just a 45-minute drive out of Nashville, Dickson still has that Southern small-town feel, while being close enough to the city and all of its amenities.

While you can drive your Dickson motorhome rental into Nashville, know that parking can be expensive and hard to find near some of the larger attractions. Fortunately, Dickson is connected to the city’s public transportation system, the MTA, allowing you to ride into the downtown area in about an hour and 15 minutes.

RV Parks Near Dickson

Unfortunately, despite Dickson’s relatively rural location and excellent tourism potential, there aren’t that many RV parks close by. Dickson RV Park is an option close to town. The park has hookups, a swimming pool, and a forest setting. Nearby Montgomery Bell State Park has RV sites with hookups and also great recreational opportunities in the surrounding parkland. Another option is Tanbark Campground, which is 10 miles to the southwest along I-40. Sites have full hookups and laundry facilities are also available nearby. It’s conveniently located near a truck stop, which is great for when you need to fuel up your Dickson RV rental.

For those willing to stay a little farther from Dickson, there’s the Buffalo/I-40/Exit 143 KOA, which is about 30 miles to the southwest of town. As with most KOA campgrounds, it’s got plenty of amenities including full hookups, a pool (during the summer months), picnic pavilion, and staff that can help you choose activities in the area. There’s also the Lock A Campground 40 minutes to the north, near Ashland City, which could be a good choice if you’re interested in visiting Cheatham Lake, only a couple miles away. If you need to pick up any extra supplies before heading to your campsite, there’s a Walmart Supercenter just south of town, off Highway 46.

Exploring the City of Dickson

Booking a Dickson travel trailer rental or motorhome is all about enjoying the slower pace of rural life in Tennessee. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of interesting attractions to explore nearby. To get a sense of Dickson’s history, stop into the Clement Railroad Hotel Museum. The museum offers tours that explain the effect of the railroad on Dickson and how the Civil War shaped the region. It also has an interesting exhibit on the state’s youngest governor, Frank Clement, who was born in Dickson.

For a low-key evening, see a movie at the Roxy Theater. If you’re hoping for a souvenir from your trip to Dickson, stop at Bayou Sara’s Antiques or Yesterday's Treasures Antiques, both of which have all sorts of interesting furniture and knick-knacks for those with eclectic taste.

If your visit with the rental RV in Dickson will fall during the first weekend in May, you won’t want to miss the annual Old Timers Day Festival. Musical performances, old-fashioned clothing, and “old-time” games will have you stepping into the city’s past and experiencing it as it was around the time of the Civil War.

Getting Outside Near Dickson

You don’t have to go far to find some great things to do outside near Dickson. Those hoping to hit up the links during the Dickson rental motorhome vacation will want to set up a tee time at one of the local golf courses. A relaxing eighteen holes is always a good way to start the day. For those not wanting to drive too far, Montgomery Bell State Park is only 15 minutes to the east of Dickson and is one of the more popular places to relax and enjoy nature. As the former center of the area’s iron industry, it’s also steeped in history, which can be explored via the park’s 19 miles of trail. If you’re hoping to get out on the water, check out one of the local outdoor tour companies offering canoe/kayak rentals and tours. One can be found about halfway between Dickson and Nashville.

In addition to having all the comforts of home with you, one of the best things about renting a motorhome in Dickson is having the freedom to explore. If a big outdoor adventure is going to be part of your itinerary, you won’t want to miss Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s only a four-hour drive from Dickson and provides some of the best hiking opportunities in the state - there’s a reason it’s one of America’s most popular national parks.
