The Great Outdoors

Anna Ruby Falls Recreation Area is a wonderful place to visit when you book an RV in Lumpkin County. Made up of two separate falls — Curtis Creek Falls and York Creek Falls, collectively called Anna Ruby Falls — the falls plunge 153 feet and 50 feet, respectively. Visitors can park in the parking area and hike a paved trail through lush forests to an observation platform at the base of the falls.

Another spectacular waterfall in the Dahlonega area is Amicalola Falls. The falls are located less than half an hour's drive outside of Dahlonega in Dawsonville, Georgia, in Amicalola Falls State Park. The crowning jewel of the park, Amicalola Falls is the highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. Visitors can appreciate the landscape from the parking area at the top of the falls, but the best views come after hiking down some 600 steps to the overlook bridge. From there, visitors can get a full look at the 730-foot falls, which cascade down the rock in multiple tiers. Amicalola Falls State Park offers several miles of hiking trails, including the Appalachian Approach Trail to Springer Mountain. Visitors to north Georgia can rent an RV and camp at the full hook-up campgrounds.

Want more mountains? Venture a little farther north in your RV trailer rental. Dahlonega is about an hour's drive away from Tallulah Gorge State Park. On the border of Rabun County and Habersham County, Tallulah Gorge is a magnificent two-mile gorge nearly 1,000 feet deep with near-vertical walls leading to the canyon floor. Several waterfalls, rock climbing, hiking, and gorgeous vistas make Tallulah Gorge one of Georgia’s most beloved state parks. There are also several full hook-up campsites, so bring your RV rental and come check out Tallulah the beautiful.

RV Parks

There’s no better way to explore the north Georgia mountains than with an RV rental from Dahlonega. There are also several RV parks in the area for your convenience. One option is R-Ranch in the Mountains. The ranch has many amenities including stables with horses, an outdoor pool, and fishing and canoeing in one of the ranch’s two lakes. There is also a recreational lodge with a ping pong table, pool table, and movie rooms. In addition to several cabins and cottages, the ranch has 170 full hook-up campsites for motorhomes and travel trailer rentals.

Dahlonega is also home to Etowah River Campground. The 28-acre campground has full hook-up RV sites within walking distance to the Etowah River. During the summer months, guests can rent a tube from the RV park office and tube down the river. A bathhouse and WiFi are available to all paying guests.

Exploring the City

Dahlonega was the location of one of America’s first major gold rushes. As such, the city abounds with gold-related memorabilia. Learn more about the Dahlonega Gold Rush at the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site. Local culture and all things gold rush are on display at this Old Lumpkin County Courthouse. The courthouse commemorates the mining history of Lumpkin County and the first American gold rush. Another thing to check out while in Dahlonega is the Consolidated Gold Mine. One of the largest hard rock gold mines in the region, here visitors can plunge underground and experience how miners tapped into large, hidden deposits of gold. If you prefer to stay above ground, you can learn the process of panning for gold, how to mine for gems, and how to cut gems.

Another point of interest in Dahlonega is the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve and Zoo. This animal sanctuary and petting zoo is home to a wide range of animals — from Siberian tigers to elk and African lions to grizzly bears. Visitors also have the opportunity to interact with certain species including alligator, cockatoos, bearded dragons, and more.

And what’s a visit to the north Georgia mountains without a little pit stop in the Alpine Village of Helen? Modeled after a German alpine village, Helen is a tiny city — only 2.1 square miles — packed with charm and lots of delicious tasting fudge. During the summer months, visitors can tube down the Chattahoochee River, which runs through the heart of Helen or enjoy a cold beer along its banks. Surrounded by majestic mountains and packed with small hotels, cobblestone streets, and German cuisine, Helen is the perfect place to experience a little bit of Bavarian culture deep in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Dahlonega is a wonderful place to visit. Full of history, culture, and natural beauty, your next adventure awaits when you book an RV rental in Dahlonega, GA.
