Concrete, Washington is a small town nestled in the lush foothills of the North Cascade Mountains, about 35 miles east of the larger towns of Mount Vernon and Anacortes. The town has changed names several times since its settlement, starting out as Minnehaha, then Baker, which was then merged with neighboring Cement City and finally officially incorporated as Concrete in 1909.

Concrete has even been featured on the big screen in the 1993 movie This Boy’s Life, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. Book an RV in Concrete to take advantage of the stunningly beautiful Pacific Northwest scenery and laid-back rural life.

Discover Concrete

The Great Outdoors

Just 20 miles east of Concrete lies North Cascades National Park, a paradise for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Hiking, biking, and boating are all popular ways to explore the park in the summer, and visitors often ski, snowshoe, or sled in the winter months. Diablo Lake is a highlight of the park, with shockingly cold and bright turquoise water that’s perfect for exploring with a kayak or stand up paddleboard. With a Concrete RV rental, you can easily explore the beautiful alpine lakes and trails of North Cascades National Park.

Mt. Baker Ski Area is about a two-hour drive north of Concrete, and is one of the snowiest places on the planet--the area once set the record for the most recorded snowfall in a single season with 95 feet of snow! The ski area offers a multitude of trails for skiers and snowboarders of all levels, and they have lessons available as well. Overnight parking is available so you can pick up a camper rental in Concrete and easily spend a weekend skiing at Mt. Baker.

The Lower Baker Dam is an engineering behemoth--it was completed in 1925 and then raised to 293 feet tall in 1927 which made it the tallest hydroelectric dam in the world at that time. The dam forms a reservoir on the Baker River called Lake Shannon, which is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and water skiing.

Exploring the City

The Skagit Eagle Festival takes place annually, every full weekend for the month of January. This event celebrates bald eagle-watching season and features a variety of events and activities, including eagle-related crafts for kids, forest service eagle watching stations, and photography tours. The festival highlights Native American history, local conservation projects, and the community. Events are spread between Concrete and nearby Rockport and Marblemount, so it’s the perfect time to explore with your travel trailer RV rental from Concrete.

The town also hosts the annual Concrete Vintage Fly-In at the local airport, which draws hundreds of vintage, classic, and antique aircraft and plane enthusiasts. The event also involves a youth activity day with a bouncy house, face painting, and much more, plus a host of food trucks present throughout the weekend. Vintage car and motorcycle clubs also occasionally make appearances at this event!

Concrete has a limited selection of restaurants, with the focus being on hearty pub fare and deli food. For more food options, head west to the Sedro-Woolley or Mount Vernon areas, where you will find a broad selection of fast food, world cuisine, and more.
