Commerce is a city that was first incorporated in 1884 under the name Harmony Grove; it was reincorporated in 1904 under its current name as a result of the townsfolk's mail being sent to the post office in Harmony Grove, Dawson County, by mistake. The city's economy was originally based on the production of cotton textile products such as denim blue jeans and electricity but is today centered around commercial activities. There are a number of celebrities who were born or lived in Commerce at some point, including several professional athletes (in baseball and football), a few writers, a country singer, and a few politicians. It opened the first all-girls school in the state in 1824.

Search for an RV in Jackson County and you are ready to follow in the footsteps of the settlers who first discovered the area. There are several other towns and cities that are worth visiting for at least a little while. Cornelia was a filming and production location for the 1956 Walt Disney film The Great Locomotive Chase and was the birthplace and retirement location of baseball great Ty Cobb. Lavonia's library, whose proper name is Lavonia-Carnegie Library, was dedicated in name to philanthropist Dale Carnegie in 1911. Athens' early industrial and commercial development was fueled by its expanding base of cotton mills, leading to the nickname “Manchester of the South” (after the city in England famous for its mills). Braselton, or portions of it, is located in four separate counties: Barrow, Gwinnett, Hall, and Jackson. Gainesville was first established as Mule Camp Springs in 1818 but was renamed three years later after General Edmund P. Gaines, who became famous during the War of 1812. Your Commerce travel trailer rental is your ticket to discovering these scenic locations and their history.

Discover Commerce

The Great Outdoors

Hurricane Shoals Park is a scenic recreation area managed and operated by the Jackson County Parks & Recreation Department, and partially funded by the Tumbling Waters Society of Jackson County, Inc, a non-profit organization. Activities in the park include picnicking, swimming, and tubing in the shoals (the river that divides the park), and there is an authentic and working grist mill that mills cornmeal during the annual Art in the Park festival. It also has a miniature golf course and a disc golf course.

The nearby family fun center is an indoor and outdoor recreation venue that is perfect for families with young children. The center has carnival-style rides, bumper cars, and a go-kart race track. There is an indoor arcade with pinball and other games, and laser tag. It also has a miniature golf course.

Buford Dam Park is a cultivated lakeside park with opportunities to swim, fish, hike, and have picnics. There is a barbecue area and also public restrooms; one of the hiking trails takes you past the dam. Park your Commerce RV trailer rental nearby and you can spend an entire day at the park, coming and going as you please.

RV Parks

There is a multitude of RV parks and campgrounds around the area; some of them may have tent camping and some may have mobile homes. Your Commerce camper rental is all you need to be comfortable wherever you decide to stay.

Victoria Bryant State Park has a rustic campground with access to hiking and biking, boating (with electric motors or paddles), and fishing. There is a beach where guests can go swimming or you can go geocaching along the shoreline. Guests have access to a golf course located within the park. The campground is a combination of tent and RV camping, first come, first served.

Georgia RV Park is a rustic RV campground with plenty of trees and grass and a saltwater pool. Some of the individual sites have pull-through access and some have full hookups. There is a playground for children and a picnic pavilion for outdoor meals. There is a meadow with tent camping available.

Exploring The City

There are lots of things to do in the area surrounding Commerce. One outdoor adventure company puts you in the pilot's seat of a light sport aircraft after a quick introduction and explanation of the controls. Customers have the option of guiding the plane or allowing the instructor-copilot to fly the plane for them. This could be a one-off experience but customers have the option of returning for lessons. There are museums and wineries to explore and experience, and antique markets that show rather than tell what life in this area was like back in the day. While you are here, be sure to take your Commerce RV rental for a short spin (or a long one); RV vacations were made for hitting the open road and this is your chance to do exactly that.

Before the sun sets, it will be time to start thinking about more culinary pursuits and Commerce has this covered too. Restaurants in the city range from inexpensive to moderately priced and there is a balance of locally owned and commercial chain restaurants, so there should be something for everyone come dinner time. One of the Japanese restaurants is a traditional hibachi restaurant, preparing your dinner before you (and putting on a show doing it), but it also has a good selection of sushi and sashimi entrees. A local diner puts the comfort in comfort food, offering up fried chicken, meatloaf, or anything else that Mom used to make. The decor is simple as are the dishes, but the ingredients are fresh and portions large. Expect to take some of your meal home to your Commerce luxury RV rental, because food like this should never be left behind (and you may not forgive yourself if you do). Vacations were made for midnight snacks, eating in lawn chairs or whatever suits you, and this is your chance to make the most of it.
