Clifton is an incorporated city in Bosque County, Texas; it was established in the winter of 1852-53 when four Norwegian families, the Kells, Kemps, Lockers, and McSpaddens settled in the area. The city is surrounded by limestone cliffs, resulting in the city name Cliff Town which was later shortened to Clifton. The community began with a Masonic Lodge and a log schoolhouse, later followed by a post office established in 1859. The First Presbyterian Church of Clifton (or rather its congregation) was created in 1861 and still exists today, making it the county's oldest continuous church; the actual church building wasn't constructed until 1884-85. Today, Clifton is known as the Norwegian Capital of Texas, an official designation granted by the state legislature. It celebrates its heritage annually with a Christmas tour. The city is well known for its visual and performing arts, and is the home of the Bosque Arts Center, which offers classes, annual art and photography shows, and has a performing theater.

RV rentals in Bosque County are the perfect start to a perfect vacation, well suited as they are to this environment. There are some other towns that visitors should explore too. Meridian is located near the 98th meridian and is thought to have been named after some of the locations its founder surveyed. Hillsboro is Hill County's primary location for commerce and trade and is Lake Whitney's gateway. Hubbard was named after Texas State's 16th governor and has a reputation as a health resort. Hamilton is home to actor Mark Harelik, who's play The Immigrant describes Jewish life in rural Texas. Your Bosque County travel trailer rental is your invitation to experience life in this historic state.

The Great Outdoors

Lofers Bend Park is a semi-developed outdoor recreation area where visitors can go swimming, boating, canoeing or kayaking, and much more. Guests can also fish with the appropriate license for bass, crappie, or catfish, or enjoy viewing the deer that frequent the area. The park consists of cedar and oak tree stands which settle around a nature trail heading both north and south. Keep your Clifton RV trailer rental nearby, and you can relax in comfort between your outdoor excursions or after you have finished for the day.

Lake Whitney State Park was created in 1965 following the damming of the Brazos River in 1951. It consists of gently rolling hills and wooded areas that follow the Washita Prairie on the eastern edge of the greater Grand Prairie; its surface is rich soil on top of a layer of hard limestone rock. Guests can fish on the lake with the appropriate license or from the shoreline (no license required). Visitors can also go geocaching, waterskiing, or hike the park's many trails. Nature and wildlife viewers can enjoy the deer, snakes, armadillos, and other species that reside in the park.

Meridian State Park is a smaller park with lots of amenities. The park has trails where visitors can hike and observe the wildlife and flora, or simply have a picnic. Guests can go paddling or swimming, or explore the historic structures that dot the landscape. The park and dam were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Core, a group of World War I veterans.
