Peace Valley Park, the closest park to Chalfont, is a cute little park that locals and visitors alike flock to. There are over 15 miles of trails at the eastern side of Lake Galena, ranging from paved to rugged footpaths through mature woods. In addition to herds of deer, hikers can spot muskrat and otter nests. The Peace Valley Nature Center runs guided walks on Sundays in spring and fall months. The county park also offers small-craft, non-motorized water vehicles during the summer months. Fishermen can catch a variety of fish, including largemouth bass, channel catfish, and sunfish.

Tyler State Park, a few miles to southeast near Newtown, provides several miles of maintained trails for hikers and bikers, though please take note: bikers are permitted only on designated paved trails. Horseback riders are permitted on non-paved trails (as are hikers), and there are a number of parking lots that can accommodate horse trailers, campers, and large motorhomes. Though boating in the Neshaminy Creek is permitted, during the summer months and dry years the creek’s water level can get low. Anglers can alternatively fish from the banks, and catch fish like smallmouth bass, carp, black crappie, and sunfish. When winter rolls around, the fun doesn’t stop. Cross-country skiing, ice-skating, sledding, and ice fishing are all encouraged at this park.

Don’t forget to find a place to overnight camp with your motorhome rental from Chalfont. There are a handful of campgrounds for RVs in the area. The Little Red Barn, for example, is a family-oriented campground that has been operated for nearly 50 years. It offers amenities like full hookups for your RV, a fire ring at each site, a pool, laundry and restroom facilities, and free WiFi. One potential snag is this campground is open only from spring till fall.

Homestead Family Campgrounds may be a good candidate as well. Although it does offer primitive sites, it has lots with full hookups, and all guests are welcome to use the pool, laundry facilities, and bathhouse. There is a small fishing pond on site, too.

Both campgrounds are close to Quakertown and Nockamixon State Park.

You may occasionally find that you need to make an unplanned overnight stop. There is a Walmart store (Walmart is known to be RV friendly) just off Route 309 in Hatfield. Be sure to ask the store manager for permission beforehand, though!

Although Chalfont is a small town, there’s plenty of things to see and do in the area. There are several golf courses in the area. The Neshaminy Valley Golf Course, which has a full 18-hole course, and Fairways Golf Club, also a 18-hole course, are both open to the public. The latter boasts a par-65 fairway and course rating of 62.1.

The Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle in Doylestown is a quirky local curiosity. Henry Mercer, an eccentric millionaire (of the time), fancied himself an architect, archeologist, and purveyor of artifacts and fine art. He built three castle-like structures, which now houses the museums, out of poured concrete, which was supposed to be an impossible feat at the time. The museums feature, among many other exhibitions, exquisite tile handicrafts and an eclectic collection of prints.

The Michener Art Museum is dedicated to educating and preserving the cultural arts of Delaware Valley region, including the local Lenape tribe’s beadworks and pottery. The galleries also feature abstract, modern art. The museum also regularly runs lectures, and workshops and art classes for both children and adults, fostering budding artists. Feel free to drop in!
