Most people think of NASA and high-tech shuttles lifting off on their way to outer space when they hear the words Cape Canaveral, but few people know about the small town that shares its name with the Air Force station and NASA facility. This tiny coastal town in Florida was first settled around the middle of the 19th century when a lighthouse was built. Once there was peace with the Seminole native people, more people began to uproot and move to the community, legendary for its incredible views and pristine beaches.

Cape Canaveral did not incorporate until 1963 and only did so to avoid being annexed by neighboring Cocoa Beach. Cape Canaveral, along with the neighboring beach towns, is referred to as the “space coast” due to their proximity to the Kennedy Space Center. The white sand beaches and allure of the NASA facilities nearby make the area a tourism hotspot, which comes as no surprise to people when they book an RV in Cape Canaveral. You can take your Cape Canaveral RV rental on the road and visit other iconic destinations in Florida, like Orlando and Daytona Beach which are quite easy to drive through. There are even fun celebrations and festivals held in Cape Canaveral each year, like the Patriot’s Day Parade or the Sun and Space Festival.

Discover Cape Canaveral

The Great Outdoors

It totally makes sense to want a rent an RV in Florida, especially when it has some of the nicest beaches you could possibly imagine. Cherie Down Park is a beautiful little park on the coast with beachfront access to Cape Canaveral’s incredible beachfront. There are showers where you can rinse off after you leave the beach, plus picnic areas, BBQ grills, and a boardwalk overlooking the ocean at Cherie Down Park. The park also preserves and protects the fragile sand dune ecosystem that is home to various species of wildlife.

Saint Sebastian River State Park can be found south of Cape Canaveral on the mainland. This park also exists to protect ecosystems along the river and the wildlife that inhabit them. You can stroll through scenic pine forests and meadows of waist-high wildflowers in this spectacular, secluded setting. There are 60 miles of trails connecting the park, and ample space to cycle, ride horses, fish, birdwatch, geocache, and even camp.

Indian River Lagoon State Park is a lovely place to visit with your Cape Canaveral camper rental. The park was created to protect the watershed of the Indian River on the barrier island. With saltwater marshes and mangrove wetlands, the estuary is considered to be one of the most biologically diverse areas in the entire country.

Cape Canaveral National Seashore is an obvious choice seeing as it shares a name with the town. This stunning park by the sea has over 50,000 acres of land and brings in over a million beachgoers each year. The 25-mile stretch of beach is the longest expanse of undeveloped land on the east coast of Florida. There are thousands of different plant species and hundreds of bird types that call the park home. On clear days, you can see space shuttles take off for outer space from across the water. There are so many other beaches, national forests, and national parks in Florida to venture to if you have the time, like Everglades National Park or Biscayne National Park. Don’t be afraid to take a road trip, Florida truly has some magical sights to behold.

RV Parks

RV parks and campgrounds are a dime a dozen in Florida and Cape Canaveral is no different than the rest of the state. Jetty Park Campground is situated on the northern tip of the town, close to the Kennedy Space Center. There are panoramic views of the ocean and guests can enjoy launches at the space center from the comfort of their Cape Canaveral RV rental.

Carvers Cove RV Park has spacious grassy lots to park your Cape Canaveral luxury motorhome and quite a few other amenities. Fishing can be done on from the park's fishing pier, designated for guests only.

Space Coast RV Resort is located over on the mainland across the Indian River and has a refreshing pool to help guests beat the Florida heat. The park has beaches in addition to the pool, along with a store, library, and clubhouse.

Exploring the City

This charming community by the sea is full of relaxing vibes, pleasant shops and restaurants, historic sites, and, of course, scenery, so naturally, it is a great place to vacation year-round, especially when you rent an RV here. The Exploration Tower is a fun place to spend some time, especially if it happens to be a rainy day. This informative museum has information on all things Cape Canaveral, housed in a unique, futuristic looking tower. There are several stories of exhibits and a great deal of history to learn about.

Cocoa Beach Surfers Museum has interesting displays concerning the invention of surfing, the first surfers, and the gear they used. Old boards and surfing equipment can be seen throughout the space and there is a large surfing shop to buy souvenirs at too.

Cape Canaveral Lighthouse is a historic building worthy of touring, with splendid views of the ocean and an awesome architectural style. You can also get involved in a three-part tour that brings guests to the lighthouse, the US Missile History Center, and the Kennedy Space Center to learn about space and the technology we use to learn about the cosmos.
