Between Greenville and Sulphur Springs, Campbell, Texas is a tiny town that was named after Texas governor Thomas Mitchell Campbell. It was settled in 1880 around the tracks of the East Line and Red River Railroad, with a station and post office established the following year.

Campbell served as a shipping hub for the surrounding farming community for most of its existence, with just a scattering of businesses remaining today. It’s a relaxed destination to rent an RV for those who want to escape the crowds while still being within easy access of everything Hunt County has to offer.

Discover Campbell

The Great Outdoors

Pick up your RV rental in Campbell and head to the Cooper Lake State Park, which centers around the waters of Jim Chapman Lake. Its shores are traversed by hiking and horseback riding trails while the lake itself can be explored by boat, canoe, or kayak. Keep your eyes peeled for white-tailed deer, raccoons, and beavers, as well as a myriad of birdlife that flocks here to wade in the shallows.

Another lakeside park worth exploring in the region is Coleman Park in Sulphur Springs. It’s a recreational hub for locals, with soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and tennis courts, as well as a fishing pier and numerous picnic areas that are equipped with charcoal grills. Relax at the children’s playground or enjoy a walk along the 2.5-mile-long trail that takes you over numerous bridges and past two waterfalls.

You can also drive your RV trailer rental from Campbell south to Wind Point Park, which hugs the northern edge of Lake Tawakoni and forms part of the Lake Tawakoni State Park. There are various paths for walking and cycling, as well as a children’s playground and a sandy beach from where you can swim. If you’re traveling with a boat, you can launch it from Wind Point Park’s boat ramp or see what’s biting from the 300-foot fishing pier.

RV Parks

Pick up your motorhome rental in Campbell and drive to the Stinson RV Park, which sprawls across 38 acres to the southwest of the town center. There are pull-through sites that cater to even big rigs, with full hookups available. Pets are welcome and there’s a stocked pond for catch-and-release fishing, as well as a nine-hole golf course situated right next door.

Closer to Greenville is the East Texas RV Park, which offers full hookup sites in a shaded setting. There’s a dog run where your four-legged friends can run free and a coin-operated laundry, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi and cable TV available.

Head farther west and you’ll find the Dallas Northeast Campground in Caddo Mills, which has pull-through sites with full hookups and either 30 or 50-amp service. Cool off in the outdoor swimming pool and let your kids run loose in the playground. On-site, there is also a five-acre lake where anglers can fish on a catch-and-release basis.

If you just need a place to park while passing through, there is a Walmart to the south of Greenville where you may be able to set up for a night or two with the manager’s permission.

Exploring the City

Grab an RV rental near Campbell and head west to Greenville, which serves as the seat of Hunt County. It’s home to the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum that celebrates the region’s cotton-growing and World War II history. Wander through the recreated streets of downtown Greenville to see how it appeared at the turn of the 20th century and explore a World War II trench. The museum also features an armory of antique guns and is home to the Hunt County War Memorial where local war veterans are remembered.

Another of Greenville’s highlights is the waterpark in the town, where young and old can cool off during the hot summer months. The aviation-themed design includes a runway entrance and plane-inspired waterslides, as well as a lazy river that takes you through an airplane hangar. There are numerous pools designed for different ages, as well as plenty of eateries where you can refuel throughout the day.

If you drive in the other direction from Campbell, you’ll end up in Sulphur Springs, which is noted for its Romanesque Revival-style Hopkins County Courthouse. Learn about the history of the local dairy industry at the Southwest Dairy Museum or browse the antique music boxes on display at the City Public Library. Sulphur Springs also hosts an evening Farm and Art Market from May through to October that’s been voted as one of the best in America.

Campbell is home to a grill-style restaurant if you want to dine out, as well as a gas station near the main highway intersection if you need to refuel the Campbell motorhome rental. It’s a 15-minute drive south to Greenville where there’s a more extensive range of services, including supermarkets where you can stock up on groceries and supplies.

Whether you’re visiting Hunt County for its history museums or recreational parks, it's time to book an RV in Campbell and start exploring.
