Camp Hill is an incorporated borough in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; its incorporation was finalized in 1885. The area was originally known as White Hill prior to the Civil War, but its name is thought to have been changed due to a division amongst churchgoers in a Peace Church located nearby. Part of the congregation began holding outdoor meetings on a hill resulting in the new name. During the Civil War, the Gettysburg Campaign moved north, and the Battle of Sporting Hill was fought in Camp Hill in 1863. The National Register of Historic Places added the Peace Church to its list in 1972. Camp Hill has a number of celebrities who reside there, including several professional NFL football players, and a few writers and other celebrities. Camp Hill is mentioned in a novel, a fictitious alternate history of the Civil War named Southern Victory.

RV rentals in Cumberland County are your opportunity to explore the landscape and history of this area. There are other towns you should visit while you're here. Elizabethville has a post office that was established in 1826 and is still in operation. Reading was one of the first communities to turn outlet shopping into a tourist attraction. Lancaster was the hometown of Thaddeus Stevens, a congressman and abolitionist, and the nation's 15th president, James Buchanan. Dover gained national attention in 2004-05 when its District School Board elected to include the concepts of Intelligent Design and Darwin's Theory of Evolution in its Biology Curriculum. Scotland was the fictitious setting for a 2001 film Scotland PA, a retelling of the Macbeth play situated in a Scotland, PA fast food restaurant (it was actually filmed somewhere else). Your Camp Hill travel trailer rental is how your vacation will begin; where it takes you from there is up to you.

The Great Outdoors

Swatara State Park is an outdoor recreation area divided by Swatara Creek from end to end; the creek is surrounded by wetlands and tree stands and is mostly undisturbed except for a few bridges that have been built over the creek. Visitors can go hiking and mountain biking on the trails, some of which are developed and wheelchair accessible. Pets are allowed.

Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area is a multi-use nature preserve providing habitat for local wildlife and outdoor recreation for the public. Visitors can enjoy hiking the miles of trails that navigate the park while viewing the plant and animal life and possibly even recording it in photos. Some of the park's residents include bald eagles, wild turkeys, squirrels, and cottontails, among others. Fishing and hunting are allowed with the proper licenses, and a visitors center provides restrooms and staff who can answer questions. The center is wheelchair accessible and open during business hours from early February to Thanksgiving.

Michaux State Forest is located on South Mountain at the northern terminus of the Blue Mountains. The park was officially named after French botanist Andre Michaux and was the location of Mont Alto, the first Pennsylvanian forestry school and the source of the park's nickname “The Cradle of Forestry.” There are many hiking trails throughout the park but one of them connects with the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail, and there are paved level gravel roads through the park that allow for a motorized and self-guided tour of the refuge. Check with forestry staff to confirm the road conditions and you might be able to take your Camp Hill camper rental into the park.
