After the start of the infamous California Gold Rush, settlers migrated to the hills of Northern California in search of prosperity. The small mountain town of Quincy is one of the many mining settlements that would, later on, become a full-fledged city. Since 1852, people have occupied the valley between the mountains in the heart of Plumas National Forest, an exceptional natural area in its own right.

The town of Quincy was named for a farm in Illinois owned by James H. Bradley, one of the first settlers to arrive and actively organize the town. Since the mid 19th century, Quincy has continued to grow into the vibrant place it is today. The city serves as the county seat for all of Plumas County, so naturally, there is lots to see and do in this regional hub, including day trips into the scenic Sierra Nevada Mountains that surround the small valley that Quincy inhabits. If you can’t do without seeing some larger urban areas during your Quincy RV rental trip, both Sacramento and Reno, Nevada are within easy driving distance.

When you pick up your Quincy camper rental in town, there are a large number of different areas to check out, so you can get the most out of your trip. Oroville Lake is a nice place to start your trip off right, particularly in the hot summer when the hot, dry Mediterranean climate makes refreshing swimming holes an absolute necessity. Oroville Lake is a gigantic human-made reservoir surrounded by various recreation areas and campgrounds on all sides. You can camp overnight at places like Potters Ravine, Loafer Creek, Craig, Kelley Ridge, and various other recreation areas on the edges of the lake. Boating, fishing, and swimming are popular ways to enjoy the lake.

Plumas-Eureka State Park is nestled comfortably in the mountains, with lush forest groves and majestic mountaintop vistas. When you rent an RV and head to this hidden gem, you can see lots of old mining settlements and abandoned buildings left behind in the wake of the gold rush. You can go hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, and camping with your Quincy RV rental at Plumas Eureka State Park if you feel up for it.

There are well over a million acres of pristine land in Plumas National Forest, packed with wildlife and picturesque views. Approximately a tenth of the forest’s trees are considered old-growth, having never been cut or harvested for timber. Additionally, you can swim in alpine lakes, climb rock features, or camp out at any of the forest’s many campgrounds when you bring your Quincy camper rental for an expedition.
