Though its motto is “8,000 Feet Above Average”, rest assured there is nothing average about the Colorado mountain town of Buena Vista. This charming village is located in the Rocky Mountains of central Colorado, south of Leadville and west of Colorado Springs. Buena Vista was first settled in 1864 due to the Arkansas River Valley’s ample supply of potable water for drinking and agriculture. Since it was known as a stagecoach stop and an agricultural hub, Buena Vista was spared the ghost town fate of many boom-or-bust mining settlements that would often be abandoned seemingly overnight.

You can book an RV in Buena Vista and relish in the opportunity to see some of the most splendid sights in the world. The majestic Rocky Mountains encapsulate the small valley, making for exciting road trips to different areas. Historic buildings, healing hot springs, and a charming hometown feel makes Buena Vista a top destination to rent an RV.

Discover Buena Vista

Explore the Outdoors

Buena Vista simply means “good view” in Spanish, but the views in this town are nothing less than breathtaking. In fact, the whole region is packed with exceptional places to camp out in your Buena Vista camper rental. Spinney Mountain State Park is a great example of what you can find if you take a drive in your Buena Vista motorhome rental. The park engulfs the Spinney Mountain Reservoir, which shares a name with the prominent mountain that overlooks it. The lake is popular with anglers, and guests really enjoy swimming and boating in it too. Hiking up Spinney Mountain offers great views of the surrounding valley.

Gunnison National Forest borders the Arkansas River Valley to the west, with over one and a half million acres of rich evergreen forests blanketing the mountains. Seven distinct wilderness areas provide ample space for backpackers and trekkers to test their outdoor ingenuity, and there are several campgrounds and peaceful lakes to visit when you rent an RV in Buena Vista and head west.

Curecanti National Recreation Area is a two-hour drive to the west, but well worth the trip; after all, what good is a Buena Vista camper rental if you don’t use it to its full potential. This amazing recreation area surrounds the Gunnison River and the Blue Mesa Reservoir, which together are two of the most important sources of water in the mountains. Epic bluffs stand tall above the lake and river, providing an elegant backdrop for those camping out on the shores. There are three visitor centers, a few marinas, and miles of shoreline beaches to see.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is only a bit farther from Curecanti National Recreation Area, so you may want to expend the extra effort to see one of Colorado’s greatest natural treasures. This incredible park is centered around the Gunnison River and the sublime black rock canyon that surrounds it on either side. This natural masterpiece is the result of millions of years of erosion caused by the river, which slowly cut its way deeper and deeper into the earth. You can camp out in one of the park's campgrounds with the Buena Vista RV rental and enjoy some of the most heavenly views on Earth.
