Brookshire is a city in Waller County, Texas, just west of downtown Houston. It was named after Nathan Brookshire, a landowner and captain in the Texian Army (a military organization comprised of volunteer and regular soldiers). A plat was filed for the Town of Brookshire in 1893; the community was finally incorporated as the city of Brookshire in 1946. The city has a long history of farming and ranching due to its ideal combination of flat land, rich soil and an appropriate amount of rainfall. Storage silos, while not as abundant as in the past, still dot the land, adding character to the vista. The appearance of Interstate 10 has added industry to Brookshire's economic portfolio, and the growth of Houston and smaller neighboring towns has spurred the city's growth and importance.

Book an RV in Waller County, and you will have access to a wide array of quality vehicles just waiting to ferry you wherever you want to go. There are other cities of note that should be explored. Hempstead became an important distribution center for the interior of Texas and the Gulf Coast upon the arrival of the Houston and Texas Central Railway in 1858. Pinehurst was established in 1860 through a post office named “Prairie Home.” It was renamed “Hunter's Retreat” in 1871 and finally to “Pinehurst” after the completion of the railroad in 1904. Bellaire is known as the “City of Homes” due to its mostly residential character; lots are typically larger than neighboring West University Place. Rosenberg was named after the first president of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway, Henry Rosenberg. Your Brookshire travel trailer rental is your introduction to this historic and scenic area.

Discover Brookshire

The Great Outdoors

Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge is a blend of mild temperatures, bay waters, fresh and saltwater estuaries, and fertile soils, all factors which support this rich environment and its resident wildlife. Visitors can fish or hunt for waterfowl, hike the nature trails that include boardwalks and overlooks, and engage in nature and wildlife viewing. The park hosts a number of special events throughout the year which the public are invited to attend. Park your Brookshire RV trailer rental nearby, and you can retire from your activities to a hot meal and the comforts of home.

Sam Houston National Forest is a recreational preserve spread over three counties; Montgomery, San Jacinto, and Walker. It supports public recreational use but even more importantly is an archeological site of some importance; evidence suggests that the area was occupied as early as 12,000 years ago. The park further supports grazing by nearby ranch animals and timber production. Guests are allowed to hike, camp, and canoe amongst other activities; visitors who find artifacts are asked to leave them as-is and report their findings.

Big Thicket National Preserve is a convergence of nine different ecosystems, including longleaf pine forests and cypress-lined bayous. It is intersected by hiking trails and waterways where visitors can walk or paddle at their own pace. The park sponsors ranger-led educational programs and guided hikes; children can enjoy a variety of hands-on activities and even earn a Junior Ranger badge.

RV Parks

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds in the area surrounding Brookshire. Your Brookshire campervan rental is your guarantee of a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.

Lake Conroe RV Resort is a cultivated RV park with paved roads, restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and more. There is a picnic area with tables and barbecue pits, access to the lake for boating and fishing, and Wi-Fi throughout the park. Individual sites have concrete pads and patios, full hookups, and big rig access. The park is pet-friendly.

Exploring The City

There are lots of things to see and do in and around Brookshire. There are breweries and wineries where you can sample the local products and farms where you can stock up on fruit and produce. One community business employs special needs adults in its cafe and its workshop where ceramics and other gift items are produced, and plants and flowers are cultivated. A local car museum has vintage muscle cars, automobile industry signs (both painted and neon), and other memorabilia in a domed wood-beam structure. It also has ice cream on hand; tours should be arranged in advance by appointment. Don't get too distracted and forget about your Brookshire motorhome rental, though; RV vacations were made for cruising the open highway, and it is an experience you don't want to miss.

When it's time for dinner, Brookshire has you covered. Prices range from cheap to moderately priced; there are some chain restaurants on hand which kids will enjoy, but most of the outlets are locally owned and operated. One family-run seafood restaurant specializes in crawfish but doesn't stop there. Guests looking for foodie adventure should try the fried pickles; those a bit less adventurous will enjoy the chicken fried steak. One barbecue restaurant is located in an old shack with a neon sign on the front but don't be misled; the food here is top-shelf. There are picnic tables next to the shack or guests can ask for takeout. Portions are large, so expect to finish your meal at home in your Brookshire luxury RV rental as a late-night snack or next day's lunch. If only we could eat like this every day.
