First founded in 1794 by Quaker settlers, Brookeville is a peaceful community in southern Maryland between the cities of Baltimore and Washington D.C. The town was named by Richard Thomas and Deborah Brooke after her family, as she inherited the land from her father. In 1802, the first post office was established, and in 1808, Brookeville finally incorporated as an actual town.

Brookeville, for most of its history, existed as an agricultural town in Maryland, but in the last several decades, it has slowly morphed into a suburban bedroom community for people working in Washington D.C., as well as a small, weekend getaway for city residents. Brookeville is full of brilliant scenery, friendly vibes, and lots of history. The town even has the distinction of being the temporary capital of the United States for a day on August 26th, 1814, when the British burned Washington D.C. to the ground during the War of 1812.

When you book an RV in Brookeville, you’ll have the option to explore Maryland, the Chesapeake Bay area, Virginia, and, of course, the nation’s capital. This exciting area is a fantastic option as far as vacation getaways go, so be sure to make the most of your Brookeville camper rental trip now and start planning.

The Great Outdoors

Maryland is packed with some stunning nature reserves and public parks despite being known for its cities. Even its regional parks like Hawlings River Regional Park are top-notch. Hawlings River Regional Park is largely undeveloped, but it has hundreds of acres of gorgeous forest, with some natural trails cutting through it. Seneca Creek State Park is by Gaithersburg and is centered around Clopper Lake, with various day-use facilities making for an entertaining place to spend the day outdoors with your Brookeville RV rental. You can go swimming in the lake, or fish for crappie, bass, trout, and other sorts of fish. Kayaking is another way to make the most of Clopper Lake, and there are over 50 miles of trails weaving around the park that you can try. There is even a 27-hole disc golf course, a historic site, and a playground for children within the park.

Patapsco Valley State Park can be found when you take your Brookeville motorhome rental east towards Baltimore. This 14,000-acre park, officially known for being the first state park in Maryland, is a lovely collection of nature trails, picnic shelters, riverfront beaches, and campgrounds. Horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing are all possible in the park depending on the time of year. You can see some historical monuments in the park like the Thomas Viaduct, or natural landmarks like Cascade Falls hidden in the forest.

Shenandoah National Park is the most impressive nature park within 500 miles of Brookeville, known for its world-famous Skyline Drive. Almost half of this remarkable 200,000-acre park has been designated wilderness area, with hardly any development and a whole lot of natural area to explore. The Skyline Drive carves and winds its way through and over the Blue Ridge Mountains on a 100-mile-long journey with some of the most incredible views imaginable. Autumn is especially wonderful for driving the Skyline Drive in your Brookeville campervan rental, with enchanting views of the fall foliage for as far as the eye can see.
