The Downeast Region of Maine is sparsely populated compared to the rest of America’s Northeast, so you shouldn’t have much trouble finding a place to park your RV rental in Brewer. When you book an RV in Brewer, Maine you’ll have a couple options for camping, ranging from full hookups at dedicated RV parks to zero amenities when parking near hiking trailheads.

The first place you’ll probably want to look is at the Bangor/Holden KOA campground. They have dozens of spaces with full hookups and few pull-through sites for longer RVs. They also have a bounce house for kids and a few hiking trails if you don’t feel like going farther out to spend some time in nature.

The Holden Family Campground is just two miles down the road from Brewer in the town of Holden. They have full hookups, a library, and a miniature golf and go-karts course close by. It’s a little farther from Bangor so you can expect a quieter experience here.

Cold River Campground, about six miles to the north, is situated right on the Penobscot River and has tons of amenities, including a swimming pool, basketball court, laundry facilities, and full hookups. If you want a hassle-free camping experience, this could be a place to try.

While physically separated from Bangor by the Penobscot River, the towns of Brewer, Old Town, and Bangor are usually considered to be one city. Travel between them is easy and gives you and the Brewer motorhome rental access to many more attractions.

If you’re looking for some culture, head to University of Maine’s Museum of Art in Orono. It’s a fairly small gallery, but has some great pieces from local artists. For a more offbeat experience, check out the 31-foot tall Paul Bunyan statue on Main Street in Bangor. His likeness represents the importance of the area’s forest industry along with the rugged spirit of Mainers.

Maine is known for having one of the highest numbers of craft beer breweries per capita and the Bangor region is no exception. Geaghan Brothers Brewing Company in Brewer has a big selection and frequently has some rather experimental offerings to wet your whistle with.

If you’re traveling with kids on the Brewer camper rental vacation, you’ll probably want to stop by Playland Adventures. The place is crammed full of inflatable playthings where the little ones can run off all that excess energy built up from hours on the road. They’ll also enjoy the Maine Discovery Museum, the largest children’s museum north of Boston.

If any of this area seems familiar to you, perhaps it’s because you’ve read about some of the locations in a book by Bangor’s most famous resident - Stephen King. While there are no tours of his home, you can take a quick peek at the literary legend’s abode.

If you’re looking for some outdoor recreation close to town, the best place to go is the Bangor Waterfront, just across the river. The park has a couple miles of trail along the Penobscot River and an outdoor amphitheater for concerts and other performances during the warmer months. Indian Trail Park, on the Brewer side of the river, is great for a short stroll or walking your dog, but is much smaller and without any dedicated hiking paths.

No trip to Maine would be complete without a visit to the stunningly beautiful Acadia National Park. The park is only an hour away and is the only national park in the northeast. The park has miles and miles of great hiking for all levels, fantastic bike paths, and kayak rentals for those wanting to explore the inlets surrounding the park. It can get pretty popular and the roads are quite narrow, so you’ll probably want to leave your Brewer rental RV in nearby Bar Harbor and take the shuttle into the park. Most of the RV campsites on the western edge of Mount Desert Island, a few miles outside Acadia.

If you’re a hardcore peakbagger or at least a very persistent hiker, you’ll want to head up to Baxter State Park, two hours north of Brewer. It’s home to one of the tallest and most challenging peaks in New England, Katahdin, with an elevation of 5,267’. The trails to the summit are incredibly popular during the summer, so it’s important that you reserve a parking space at the trailhead a month or two in advance.

Want to leave the crowds behind? Very few visitors to the Bangor region make the trip out to the Cutler Coast - 4.5 miles of sheer, rocky cliffs overlooking the Bay of Fundy. The coastline has 10 miles of hiking trails and some limited tent camping near the cliff face, but there is plenty of RV parking space at the trailhead.
