In Boyne Valley Township on the Boyne River, you can book an RV in Boyne Falls and immerse yourself in the majesty of northern Michigan. There is a long list of reasons why one might visit this exciting vacation locale, established back in 1874 and formally incorporated in 1893. Boyne Falls was first founded after the completion of the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad when it finally reached the northern regions of Michigan’s lower peninsula.

Boyne Falls still remains a small village, much like it was a century ago. The only difference is that Boyne Falls has become a popular place with a growing tourism industry based off of its warm summers, snowy winters, and incredible landscapes. You can rent an RV in Boyne Falls and take part in a variety of activities, from hiking in the nearby forests, swimming in the Great Lakes, or skiing and snowboarding during the winter. The town itself is found between Mackinaw City and Traverse City, in an otherwise sparsely populated area far removed from the state’s major cities in the south.

The best time of year to visit Boyne Falls depends on what you hope to do when you arrive, but the town is known to host a few fun festivals. Most famous are the Morel Fest Wine & Dine and the National Morel Mushroom Festival which celebrate the town’s appreciation and love for the mushroom which is perfectly suited to grow in its hot, humid climate.

The Great Outdoors

Northern Michigan is dotted with unimaginable beauty and a smattering of parks, forests, beaches, and other natural landmarks, so it is entirely up to you to figure out what you want to do when you pick up your motorhome rental in Boyne Falls. Young State Park is a solid bet, complete with swimming beaches, picnic spots, fishing areas, hiking trails, and excellent views. There are three different campgrounds at the lakefront park where you can camp in your Boyne Falls RV rental by owner.

Fisherman’s Island State Park is a lush recreation area on the shores of Lake Michigan, with epic views overlooking the water, particularly at sunset when the last red and gold rays of the sun's light peek over the horizon, creating a unique masterpiece each day. Fisherman’s Island makes up a small fraction of the park, with most of its land existing on the mainland. The island is connected to the mainland via a tombolo, a sort of mound-like land bridge allowing guests to walk between the two. There are rustic campgrounds, dreamy hiking paths, maple forests, rolling dunes, and much more to see when you pay this place a visit.

Wilderness State Park is about an hour's drive north in your Boyne Falls RV rental on the northern tip of the lower peninsula. Ten thousand acres of pristine land is waiting to be explored, with loads of historic structures, forests, dunes, picnic areas, and miles of lakeshore. There are long-distance trails for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing, as well as a 250-site campground and a boat launch. The park is a designated dark sky preserve, known for its lack of light pollution and breathtaking views of the Milky Way.

It isn’t the easiest place to reach, and you cannot bring your Boyne Falls camper rental there, but Isle Royale National Park is the state’s lone national park far up north near Lake Superior by the Canadian border. This remote, half-million-acre island only receives around 25,000 guests per year, much less than most state parks in Michigan. The island is reachable by boat, and home to moose, elk, wolves, and other amazing woodland animals. There are campgrounds, hiking trails, and historical sites left behind by ancient native people over 5,000 years ago, so there is no shortage of reasons to take a trip to this magical island.

City Attractions

Boyne Falls may be small, but it is a tourism destination for a few reasons. This charming town is quite small by physical standards, so walking from one end to the other is quite easy. The surrounding areas are full of interesting things to do. The Boyne City Farmer’s Market presents a wonderful way to nab some fresh produce, dine on food truck cuisine, buy locally made crafts for the folks back home, and enjoy live music. There are also a few adventure companies in town offering zip lining, wakeboarding, kite surfing, fishing, and golfing.

Speaking of zip lining, you can do that and more at Boyne Mountain, a popular ski and snowboarding resort with tons of impressive features. The mountain is a great place for beginners, with more difficult trails higher up for expert skiers and snowboarders to test their mettle. The mountain gets quite a bit of snow due to the lake effect over Lake Michigan, so winter brings with it hordes of happy tourists.

Boyne Mountain is also home to one of the largest indoor waterparks in Michigan. There is nothing better than sliding down a gigantic waterslide while it snows outside, a truly great place to find yourself when the cold makes it unbearable to go outdoors. There are wave pools, surfing simulators, splash pads, lazy rivers, and snack shacks to check out when you visit this thrilling theme park.
