Bloomington can be found in McLean County, in the heart of Illinois. Centrally located between Chicago, St Louis and the state capital of Springfield, this town should be top of the list for anyone considering an RV rental for their next outdoor recreational adventure. Home to over 70,000 people, the city harbors a buzzing atmosphere, perfect for those who love a city escape. Bloomington is home to an astounding number of museums, covering a wide range of themes, as well as a zoo, several theaters, and art centers and even a candy factory! There is something here to suit the whole family.

One of Bloomington’s greatest qualities is its balance between city living and green space. Despite its bustling city center, there are numerous green spaces scattered throughout the city, perfect if you are looking for peaceful escape!

Discover Bloomington

The Great Outdoors

A great feature of Bloomington is its ability to combine city living with outdoor activities. Constitution Trail is an impeccable example of this. Perfect for runners, hikers, bikers and even commuters, this 45-mile long trail winds itself around some of the cities highlights. Its route along the old Illinois Central Gulf Railroad means the trail is littered with history. In particular, look out for the Camel Back Bridge. This beautiful feat of engineering was built back in 1862, and the unique wrought iron columns used to build it means this is one of only two bridges of its kind in Illinois!

Another impressive outdoor space is Miller Park. Conveniently, this park is just a short walk or even shorter drive just outside of town. Nestled into this beautifully designed park, you will find sports fields, a man-made lake, historical memorials, a preserved steam locomotive, an exciting zoo and if that wasn’t enough to keep you busy, a minigolf course! If you are able to, put aside a whole day to enjoy everything that this park has to offer. If your time is slightly more limited, the zoo comes highly recommended for the whole family.

If you are simply looking for a bit of green space to relax in, there are many dotted around town. White Oak is one that comes more highly recommended. With a large pond, plenty of walking paths and huge picnic area, it is the perfect place to take a picnic on a sunny day!

RV Parks

When you book a luxury motorhome rental in Bloomington, there is so much to see, that you will need somewhere to park up your RV for a few nights. Since the town is relatively built up, it is easiest to find a campsite just outside of the city.

For a comfortable stay, consider Kamp Komfort, an easy 20-minute drive outside of town along Route 74. As well as providing full hookups for those with a luxury Bloomington travel trailer rental, there are drive-through sites and even a large swimming pool! Make sure to give the friendly staff a call before you just "show up," as the campground gets full very quickly during peak months.

If you are happy to travel a little further down the road, you will be rewarded with the beautiful serenity of Moraine View State Park. Although only a 30-minute drive outside of the city, entering this state park will feel as if you have entered a completely different world. The campground here is relatively primitive, so ensure you have all you need from the city before you cruise over. Expect limited hookups and toilet facilities for your motorhome rental from Bloomington and your stay.

Exploring the City

Bloomington is an extensive city, and deciding how to best spend your time here can be tricky. Luckily, the helpful staff at the visitors center can help you do this, so make this your first port of call. As well as providing visitor information, this center doubles up as a museum, with exhibitions showcasing the Bloomington ties to Abraham Lincoln.

For a deep look into McLean County’s past, head to the McLean County Museum of History, located right in the heart of town. Here you are able to learn about the county’s diverse cultural history spanning from the Black Hawk War in 1804 to World War II. From there you could choose to visit either the Prairie Aviation Museum, an open-air display of aircraft and helicopters, or take the kids to the Children’s Discovery Museum. This fantastic museum offers children an immersive experience and encourages them to think in alternative ways.

Still looking for more to do, why not treat yourself to a show at the theater, followed by dinner at one of the many restaurants in town. As well as some of the nations favorite high street chains, Bloomington is home to some incredible, family-owned restaurants offering high-quality food at reasonable prices! Anything from Mexican to Italian, from street food to fine dining, you will find something to suit your occasion!

When you rent a motorhome in Bloomington, you will not be disappointed. As a city full of adventure, history, and fun suitable for the whole family. Rent a camper rental in Bloomington and enjoy the perfect getaway.
