Despite its small population, Bemidji is the largest commercial hub between Grand Forks, North Dakota and Duluth in Minnesota. This unique town in northern Minnesota is affectionately called “B-Town” by its residents and prides itself on being the “First City on the Mississippi.” The small city also takes pride in being the unofficial curling capital as well as the alleged birthplace of Paul Bunyan, the legendary lumberjack.

The name Bemidji comes from the Ojibwe native language, and means “a lake with crossing waters.” The town was chartered back in 1874 and has continued to grow into the important hub for industry that it is today. Furthermore, Bemidji serves as a vital town for several nearby Native American reservations, housing vital services and government buildings and a university too.

When you book an RV in Bemidji, you can do many exciting things with your time. Stroll through town in search of historic buildings, or relax on the shores of Lake Bemidji, part of the mighty Mississippi River.

Discover Bemidji

The Great Outdoors

Bemidji is in a favorable location with regards to natural beauty and recreation, although it is hard to not be in a state like Minnesota. There are numerous areas to make use of your Bemidji camper rental during your vacation. Lake Bemidji State Park sits on the shores opposite of the town, waiting for you to make your way to the lakefront wonderland. The park is a known haven for migratory birds, so birdwatching and wildlife photography are enormously popular. In addition to glacial lakes, bogs, forests, and historic structures, you can go hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, or camping in your Bemidji RV rental by owner. There are also volleyball courts and trails where you can snowshoe, snowmobile, and cross-country ski during the long winter.

Itasca State Park is another epic destination nearby, with lots of lakes which should come as no surprise in a state dubbed “the Land of a Thousand Lakes.” The park contains the headwaters of the Mississippi River, which you can hike to and see for yourself. Half a million people visit the park each year, and it is known for being the second oldest state park in the country, established back in 1891. Its virgin red pine, spruce-balsam, and maple-basswood-aspen forests are considered a National Natural Landmark for their age and beauty. There are trails where you can hike, bike, and ride horses, campsites to use when you rent an RV, and lots of waterways to fish.

Chippewa National Forest over by the town of Walker is an amazing addition to any grand tour of Minnesota’s countryside. There are over 1,300 lakes, 900 miles of rivers and streams, lots of wetlands and bogs, and vast stretches of old-growth forest never touched by human hands. On top of that, there are hundreds of miles of trails that can be explored by off-road vehicle or snowmobile, 160 miles of hiking trails, 40 miles of biking trails, over 80 boat access spots, 80 dispersed camping areas, and 21 developed campgrounds where you can stay with the Bemidji RV rental.

RV Parks

Bemidji and its surrounding areas are home to quite a few campgrounds, so it should be simple to find a place to stay when you rent an RV in town. Bemidji KOA has a mini-golf course, a pet park, a snack bar, bicycle rentals, and a seasonal swimming pool.

Lake Bemidji State Park could be a nice place to stay when you feel like staying close to town. The views of the lake are outstanding, and reason enough to visit the state park. There are bathrooms and hot showers on-site, and a bevy of other fun activities and features for rustic camping.

City Attractions

Bemidji is one of the most exciting places you could imagine. This small city on the lake has walkable, pedestrian-friendly streets lined with beautiful brick buildings and fantastic views of Lake Bemidji. You can see some famous monuments in town, like the Chief Bemidji Statue on the lakeshore, complete with a plaque that explains the history of the area, as well as the town’s namesake. Since it is the self-proclaimed hometown of Paul Bunyan, naturally there is a Paul Bunyan and Babe the Big Blue Ox statue on display. Visitors love to take pictures with this iconic statue, a tribute to the folk hero Paul Bunyan and his trusted companion. Both Paul and Babe stand tall, easy to see from far away.

Speaking of Paul Bunyan, Paul Bunyan Animal Land is an epic zoo and wildlife park, with bobcats, lions, tigers, bears, exotic reptiles and birds, and monkeys too. Children love this family-friendly attraction outside of town, complete with a gift shop, learning center, picnic area, playground, and birthday party hosting area, all of which are wheelchair accessible.

Headwaters Science Center is an equally informative place to spend your day, learning about the complex mysteries of science. This children’s learning environment also has live animals, over 40 exhibits, a gift shop, and it hosts special events and birthday parties too.
