Worthington State Park is nestled inside the curve of the Delaware River and the Delaware Water Gap National Park. It boasts one of the most challenging terrains in New Jersey, with rocky, occasionally steep, trails. A section of the Appalachian Trail passes through this park, and hikers may occasionally encounter thru-hikers, which are people attempting to hike the entire length of the trail, about 2,190 miles. While not mandatory, if you encounter an Appalachian Trail thru-hiker, it's good etiquette to offer water, snacks, and a few band-aids. Fishing in the Worthington Park's creeks, ponds, and along the River is excellent. Expect to catch smallmouth bass, walleye, channel catfish, and a few other less-common species. The American Shad's spring run is always impressive to witness, too.
