Augusta is about equidistant from the state’s largest city, Atlanta, and the coastal capital of Savannah, both cities about two and half hours away, respectively. It’s a large city, but not so sizeable as to be crowded, yet also not small enough to be boring. It’s the perfect size for renting an RV to enjoy the city, while still having the freedom to get out into the more rural areas and experience nature.

Augusta has nine bus routes to transport visitors around the city, but getting around that way can be somewhat inconvenient. Using your Augusta RV rental to move around the city will probably be easier and since it's not overwhelming large, you should be able to find a place to park near the attractions you’re visiting.

RV Parks in Augusta

There’s no shortage of RV parks in the Augusta area and if you’re willing to stay a little ways away from the city, you’ll have a bevy of choices. Heritage RV Park is about 16 miles to the west of the city; it’s just a few minutes from the interstate and very close to all of the shopping at the Augusta Mall. A Walmart is located six minutes farther west on I-20 and is a good place to pick up any extra supplies that you may need to stock up on for the Augusta, GA RV rental. There’s also a truck stop on the way there, which is good for fueling up your rig without being tight on space.

Flynn’s Inn Camping Village and Fox Hollow Campground are about 20 minutes south of Augusta on Highway 25 near the town of Hephzibah. Both are great choices if you’d prefer to stay a little farther from town for some peace and quiet. A little over 20 minutes to the east is Betty RV Park, which is just outside the Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site. If you’re interested in Antebellum Period History, this is could be a nice place to stay. The Walmart in North Augusta will probably be your best for picking up groceries for the campsite here.

Exploring the City of Augusta

The city is full of interesting history and when you book an RV in Augusta, you’ll definitely want to check out at least a few of the museums. The Augusta Canal Discovery Center is one of the most popular and focuses on the cotton mills that sprung up here in the 1800s. Guided canal tours, given Tuesday through Saturday, explain the city’s Industrial Revolution period. To learn more about city’s past, head to the Augusta Museum of History, which covers everything under the sun from the history of golf in the region to professionalizing police and fire protection in early America. Soul music fans must check out the James Brown exhibit there - the hardest working man in show business was born right here in Augusta.

If you’re a baseball fan, make a trip with the Augusta rental RV to Lake Olmstead Stadium to see the Augusta Green Jackets play. The stadium is an enjoyable place to spend the day eating popcorn and watching America’s favorite pastime. If you’re more of a plays and musicals type, the historic Imperial Theater will be one of your favorite attractions. The 100-year-old theater is host to acts ranging from bluegrass bands to ballet performances to showings of Broadway plays.

Downtown Augusta also has excellent shopping with numerous art galleries, independent bookshops, and candy stores. For great sales though, check out the Augusta Mall to the west of the city. It has most of the popular retail brands.
