Just outside of Dayton, and a little over an hour's drive from Cincinnati, you can book an RV in Arcanum, Ohio and have the laid-back trip you have been waiting for. This small, picturesque village in western Ohio is perfect for vacationers looking to get away from the monotony of work and city life.

Arcanum dates back to the early 19th century when it was first founded by William Gunder. With the addition of the Dayton Union City Railway, Arcanum grew considerably, but you will find when you rent an RV in this idyllic hamlet that it has largely maintained its small population and village feel well into the modern day and age. Arcanum is not far from the Ohio-Indiana border, so the possibility to make your trip a multi-state adventure is an exciting prospect. Western Ohio is also saturated with lovely state parks and a surprising mix of natural landscapes, so setting off for camping trips in between visits to nearby cities can be quite exciting too.

The Great Outdoors

Unlike other parts of Ohio, there are lots of small forests, parks, and campgrounds to consider when planning your Arcanum campervan rental trip. Buck Creek State Park is one stellar option, found over on the other side of Dayton not too far from Arcanum. The park was created when the Ohio River was dammed to prevent flooding, creating a human-made reservoir that is commonly used for swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, and canoeing. There are a few historic homesteads and buildings in the park, like the Crabill Homestead which is featured on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to dozens of rental cabins along the water’s edge, there are a variety of different campsites for you to use when you rent an RV in Arcanum and want to put it to good use.

Hueston Woods State Park is another fantastic option south of town, also centered around a human-made lake. The iconic red covered bridge leading into the park and the park’s history museum are among the many reasons you should consider stopping by Hueston Woods State Park, along with the fact that the Hueston Woods themselves have been designated a National Natural Landmark by the National Parks Service. Here you can sunbathe on sandy beaches, stay in a lodge, camp out under the stars, hike on over 12 miles of nature trails, or even play a round of golf on the park’s 27-hole course.

If you want to continue your explorations of Ohio’s many lake parks, check out Lake Loramie State Park. Named for a French fur trader, this dazzling addition to the state park system is known for its abundance of fish, from bullheads and crappie to largemouth bass and channel catfish. When you want to extend your fun fishing trip, you can opt to stay the night in your Arcanum motorhome rental at one of the waterfront campsites maintained by the park.

It is a few hours' drive away, but one of southern Ohio’s most unique and incredible experiences can be found over by the city of Chillicothe. Hopewell Culture National Historical Park contains part of the Hopewell culture’s long-lasting legacy. This ancient culture was famous for its massive earthen mounds built for ceremonial and religious purposes. Evidence of this culture’s existence is scattered throughout the eastern United States, but Ohio is home to many of them. Lots of unbelievable artifacts dating back thousands of years have been pulled from excavation sites in the park, a truly exciting thing to see if you love history and other cultures.

City Sightseeing

There are a few nice taverns, wineries, and historical buildings in the small village of Arcanum, however, big-city attractions are not part of its appeal. When you rent an RV in this sleepy suburb, you can easily head to a nearby city to enjoy city nightlife, see some museums, see live music, and much more. Dayton is a solid choice, home to some of the region’s most fun-filled attractions, like the National Museum of the US Air Force. It only makes sense to put such a facility in Dayton; it is, after all, the birthplace of the Wright brothers, the two pioneers to first design and create the airplane. The museum is massive and filled to the brim with decommissioned fighter jets and military transport planes used in conflicts throughout United States history. Fascinating exhibits and informative tours make for a fun way to spend the day in town.

The Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center is where you’ll want to go to see some quality live entertainment, from Broadway musicals to symphony orchestras. Ballets, concerts, operas: you name it; this incredible state-of-the-art theater space has quality acoustics and a slew of impressive shows to attend.

Art lovers can head to Dayton for a day trip with the Arcanum RV rental. The Dayton Art Institute is a hidden gem with lots of galleries and exhibits showcasing art from around the world. Started in 1919, this fabulous institute seeks to enrich the lives of people by fostering a passion for the visual arts. There are also other incredible things to see in Dayton should you have more time.
