Today visitors flock to Anahuac to learn about the influential history of the area, whilst exploring its prolific wildlife and beautiful waterways.

Anahuac is a town that has successfully been able to integrate its rich and unique history with its interesting wildlife and stunning green spaces. Consider an RV rental in Chambers County today to guarantee the perfect next vacation!

Discover Anahuac

The Great Outdoors

Home to a countless number of waterways and more alligators than people, renting a motorhome in Anahuac is a must do for anyone that loves to explore the great outdoors.

One thing that you should consider doing with your RV rental in Anahuac is visit the National Wildlife Refuge. Although a thirty-minute drive outside of town, this 24,000-acre marshland is well worth the drive. Head to the visitors center first to brush up on local wildlife knowledge; watch a short film in the small cinema room or get involved in the alligator raising corner. Once in the refuge, it is best navigated via the network of paths that meander through the marshlands and waterways. It is well worth stopping off at a few of the boardwalks dotted throughout the refuge to spot some of the many alligators that live here, or, if you are visiting during the right season, some of the 253 migratory birds that rest here during spring.

This town is also the home of Fort Anahuac, the significant spot where the Texan army staged an opposition to the Mexican Government that ultimately resulted in their independence in 1836. Now, this historical site has been transformed into a recreational park, with traces of the fort still remaining. This is a great place to spend the day with a picnic at one of the main picnicking spots, catch a pink-hued sunset over the fishing pier or enjoy a day on the water.

In fact, when it comes to spending time on the water, visitors will be spoilt for choice when they opt for a camper rental in Anahuac. Surrounded by water on all sides, fishing and boating enthusiasts will have the choice of the channel, Trinity Bay, Trinity River or Lake Anahuac. All are great spots to catch trout, redfish, flounder or any other of the plethora of species that live in these waters!

RV Parks

Whether you are looking for long or short-term stay, there are plenty of options to park your RV rental from Anahuac. Texas is a great state for campers as there are a plethora of free-stay campsites dotted throughout, some of which even come with bathroom amenities!

Fort Anahuac Park, situated in the heart of Anahuac, offers travelers free camping and even some limited bathroom facilities. Although it is free to stay here, there is only room for around three or four small trailers. Do make sure to obtain a camping permit from the county office first to guarantee your spot. For another quick pit stop and a night or two of free camping, try Whites Park, situated just off Interstate Route 10. Although there are no signs indicating that this is a campground, the county encourages travelers to pull up next to one of the picnic tables scattered across the huge open grass.

Alternatively, should you wish to stay a little longer with your Anahuac motorhome rental, consider staying at Trinity Bay RV Park. Located right next to Fort Anahuac Park, there are full hook-ups for every site, catering for those who wish to spend a little more time here. This relatively new campground has levelled sites, big enough for any sized rig, a laundry room and a pool on site! Do note that there are no communal bathroom facilities here, so a self-contained RV is recommended.

Exploring the City

When you choose an RV rental in Texas, your visit is guaranteed to be full of interesting historical visits. Fortunately, Anahuac is no different. With over thirty official Texas Historical Markets scattered throughout the area, travelers are guaranteed to leave the city with a wealth of new knowledge. Take a walk around town, visiting the Centennial market that commemorates the people, place, and events that took place in the lead up to the state’s independence. Whilst there, pop into the Historical House on Courthouse Square. Once home to Thomas Jefferson Chambers, a former general, it is now a great example of early 19th century Louisiana style architecture.

For a more in-depth look at the areas history, cruise over to the Chambers County Historical Museum. Featuring exhibits of local and state history, this is an incredibly worthwhile visit. To make the most of your visit, call ahead and organize a guided tour of the museum and the other exclusive outbuildings with one of the museums friendly and knowledgeable staff.

If Houston is next on the itinerary, there are plenty of attractions dotted along Route 10 to visit in your Anahuac travel trailer rental on the way. A must see is The San Jacinto Battleground. This is the exact site where the Texian and Mexican armies fought the decisive battle of the Texan Revolution, and where the Texans secured their independence. Walk in the exact footsteps of the army, or head up to the top of the monument for a panoramic view over the historical site.
