A port city in New Hanover County and serving as the county seat, Wilmington serves as a great place to rent an RV and explore North Carolina. Resting neatly on Cape Fear River, Wilmington can offer a lot to its visitors regardless of the time you decide to pay a visit. Founded in 1732, then named New Carthage, the city came into existence. The settlement changed its name several times – after starting as New Carthage, it was later renamed to New Liverpool, then New Town and shortened to Newton. Ultimately, Newton was renamed for the last time and it became Wilmington, in honor of Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington. Today, Wilmington stands tall with its population reaching almost 120 thousand citizens, proclaimed amongst the ten most populous cities in the state of North Carolina. A city of such a size must have everything you would need for your RV rental vacation!
