Visitors to Vacaville will get a glimpse of what the days to come will provide them; the small town, 27 square miles in size, is planted firmly amongst orchards, farms and wonderful rolling hills. In northern Solano County, the city is roughly halfway between Sacramento to the east and San Francisco to the west. Other nearby towns include Napa, Sonoma and Oakley.
Originally a small farming community, Vacaville has recently grown very quickly, which is why it has the feel of a bigger progressive city as well as the personality of a small town. Both of these venues have reasonably large parking lots that will accommodate your Vacaville camper rental while you shop and then deliver your selections straight to your own personal fridge.
In a climate this inviting, it is almost impossible to stay indoors. Out in Napa and Sonoma, you have your choice of any of a number of vineyards you can visit, and there is even a wine train that will take you from Napa north to St. Helena, passing through the Napa Valley countryside on the way. This trip includes a gourmet lunch, one wine tasting (more can be purchased) and returns you to Napa three hours later.
The only thing that could possibly top the creature comfort of a countryside train trip is floating above that same countryside in a hot air balloon. These early morning trips (pre-sunrise) begin with a small continental breakfast, followed by a short safety briefing, a 40-minute to one-hour ride and finally a champagne brunch. The trip can be followed by a vineyard hopping tour, although this is not included as part of the hot air balloon trip.
