Choosing a camper rental in Lynwood might seem like a far-fetched idea at first; the city is just south of the megalopolis of Los Angeles, a city of millions of people and an urban sprawl that extends for a hundred miles. However, upon closer examination, Lynwood can actually be the perfect place for an RV rental, with a central location, RV parks with excellent amenities, beautiful beaches nearby, and tons of amazing attractions.

Even with L.A. being only a short drive away, Lynwood feels quite suburban, with palm tree-lined streets and quirky local businesses that are reminiscent of California’s golden age in the 1960s. However, if you book an RV in Lynwood, consider leaving your rental at the park and exploring the city via public transportation. Parking anywhere in the Los Angeles metro can be a challenge and the traffic is the stuff of legends.

Discover Lynwood

The Great Outdoors

Being located in the middle of several of Los Angeles’s larger suburbs, it can be a challenge to find outdoor recreation beyond a smattering a city parks when renting an RV in Lynwood, California. Fortunately, the Pacific Coast is only a quick drive from the city and if you love sun and sand, you’ll never be bored here. Playa Del Ray is one of the better beaches and is directly adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Sand dunes rise up to 125 feet above the shoreline there and give some spectacular views of the surrounding area.

In spite of the dense construction near Lynwood, there are a few local golf courses nearby if you’re hoping to play 18 holes while in the area. For a quick stroll, you might also want to check out Ralph C. Dills Park in Paramount. It’s just a narrow green space along the Los Angeles River, but it has a nice bike trail and is a pleasant oasis amongst the urban development.

Channel Islands National Park is also just a short boat ride away from L.A.’s coast, but you’d never guess this island wilderness could be anywhere near one of America’s largest cities. Unlike many of the other national parks in California, you probably won’t find this one too crowded either. What you will find are some spectacular hiking opportunities along the rugged coast of each of the five islands. There are also several campsites for those that want to spend the night out there.

As Lynwood is located in one of the most densely populated areas of Los Angeles, finding a place to camp with your RV rental in Lynwood can be a little challenging. One of the closest parks is Dockweiler RV Park in Playa Del Rey. It’s a little bit of drive from Lynwood, but it does offer some excellent views of the Pacific Ocean, along with full hookups, showers, and laundry facilities. If you enjoy spending time at the beach, this might be your best option as many of their sites are just steps from it. Another option for camping with your motorhome rental in Lynwood is the Golden Shore RV Resort in Long Beach. This park also offers some beachfront sites along with full hookups, a swimming pool, laundry facilities, and of course, easy access to all the great shopping and restaurants in Long Beach.

Another place to camp with your Lynwood RV rental is at the Village RV Park, which has full hookups and a swimming pool. While many of the residents at this park are long-term, they also offer nightly sites.

Exploring the Town of Lynwood

If you’re bringing the kids along when you rent an RV in Lynwood, you’ll probably want to take them to the Columbia Memorial Space Center. This hands-on museum is great for the little ones as it gives them the chance to learn about America’s space program and astronomy in general, all while having a fun and exciting time. They might also enjoy the California Science Center in Los Angeles, which has the actual retired Space Shuttle Endeavor on display along with hundreds of interactive exhibits that allow visitors to better explore the natural world.

If you’re a history buff, be sure to stop in at the nearby National History Museum of Los Angeles County. The exhibits are incredibly well put together and the sheer volume of artifacts from L.A.’s past could have you spending hours going through the place. However, in the evening you might want to catch a flick, and there’s no better place to do it than at the drive-in. Southern California’s pleasant climate and vibrant car culture have made it one of the few areas in the country to still have an abundance of drive-in theaters.
