Discover Sparta

The Great Outdoors

The best reasons to rent an RV in Sparta, let alone anywhere in Wisconsin, are the lush forests and the rich scenery that the northern state is known for. The mighty Mississippi River is not far from town, home to some stellar parks that you should definitely visit. Perrot State Park is located on the Wisconsin side of the river, with heavenly views and lots of waterfront for recreational activities. Brady’s Bluff Prairie and Trempealeau Mountain are two of the protected areas within the park, with the latter being a sacred space to the local native population. The park is named for a French explorer, and it is home to burial mounds and other mind-blowing archaeological sites.

On the other side of the river in Minnesota, you can also make use of your Sparta campervan rental at Great River Bluffs State Park. The park is named and known for its outstanding towering cliffs that overlook the Mississippi River, giving hikers sweeping views of the entire river valley and beyond. There are incredibly fragile yet important habitats scattered throughout the park supporting lots of local wildlife. There is a large network of hiking trails as well as a campground where you can stay with your Sparta motorhome rental.

Wazee Lake Recreation Area is not far north of town, a truly underutilized and lovely place to camp out for a few days. This Jackson County park is small, yet it has a fantastic lake that is ideal for swimming and fishing. The lake has also become one of the top scuba diving destinations in the state, hosting thousands of scuba divers annually.

If you need to get out and see the far-flung corners of the country, there are few places more epic and remote than Isle Royale National Park, found way up north in Lake Superior by the Canadian border. This stunning natural area only receives around 30,000 guests each year due to its location, yet it remains one of the most underrated gems in the national park system. Hidden beach coves, networks of hiking trails, magnificent views, and a range of archaeological sites dating back 10,000 years can be seen and used when you take the boat over to this island park.

RV Parks

When you pick up your Sparta campervan rental, it should be easy to find a place to stay; there are plenty of options within a 30-minute drive.

Jellystone Park Warrens is a themed campground catering to families and children, part of a national chain of Yogi Bear-inspired parks. There are pools, playscapes, and a myriad of activities for children offered each week.

Summer Hideaway RV Campground Resort is an upscale experience, with lots of amenities to keep you satisfied. Three pools, a splash pad, ATV and snowmobiling trails, hot tubs, a playscape, basketball and volleyball courts, and a mini-golf course are just some of the fun things you can enjoy during your stay.

Mississippi Bend Campground & RV Park is found on the Mississippi River, offering incredible views and lots of space to fish, swim, boat, and camp.

City Attractions

Sparta is a unique little town with a welcoming atmosphere. There are dozens of things to do in town during your stay, like eating at fine local eateries or visiting historical attractions like the William G. and Anne Williams House. This gorgeous Victorian home is now a bed and breakfast but still maintains its status as a National Historic Landmark.

The town of Sparta is also enamored with bicycles, so everywhere you go in town, there are bicycle-themed statues, stores, trails, and more. The World’s Largest Bicyclist statue reinforces the town’s claim of being the Bicycle Capital. This large statue is lit up at night and is a perfect spot for photo opportunities.

Deke Slayton Memorial Space & Bicycle Museum seems like an unusual combination of things, but rest assured there are fascinating and engaging exhibits at this charming museum. There are countless antique bicycles on display, moon rocks from NASA missions, a kid’s loft and play area, and a real space capsule that once went to space.
