Located in Harrison County, West Virginia is Clarksburg, a perfect RV rental weekend destination. Today, the city is known for one of the best-preserved historical downtowns in all of West Virginia.

Discover Clarksburg

The Great Outdoors

When you book a motorhome rental in Clarksburg, make use of the great location of this city by exploring some of the wonderful outdoor haunts. Head towards Laurel Caverns for a few hours or the day. Located about 60 miles north of town, Laurel Caverns is a massive natural calcareous sandstone cave and the largest sandstone cave in the world. The cave sits on the Chestnut Ridge, and tours help understand its history and geology. Traditional tours are usually easy and help you explore the main parts of the cave. Opt for Upper Caving or Lower Caving if you’re up for a more challenging visit. Rappelling classes are available as well.

Valley Falls State Park is just about 32 miles from the city and worth a visit in your camper rental from Clarksburg. The 1145-acre park is home to four beautiful falls of the Tygart Valley River; in addition to stunning scenic surroundings, the park offers plenty of outdoor activities. There are many different trails within the state park and hiking through each one of them is a great way to explore the park. Close by is Tygart Lake and Beach, a perfect spot to cool off from the hot West Virginia sun.

Point your Clarksville travel trailer rental towards Coopers Rock State Forest. Located in Bruceton Mills, the highlight of this forest is the views you get to see from the many overlooks of the Canyon section of the Cheat River. And not just views; this 12,747-acre forest offers the perfect weekend getaway that can be spent hiking in the midst of enormous boulders, cliffs, and numerous hiking trails.

RV Parks

When you rent a luxury motorhome rental in Clarksville, you will find there are multiple RV parking sites and campgrounds. If you’d like a RV parking site within the city, Tymber Park RV Campground is an option to consider. It’s a small site, with about 40 parking spots. Amenities at the campground include full hookups, WiFi, cell coverage, showers, electricity, water, and sewers. The park sits about 24 miles from Clarksburg.

Grafton City Campground is also located by Tygart Lake and offers 31 parking sites featuring full-hookups for your RV, fire rings, tables, restrooms, and shower facilities. Enjoy fishing, kayaking, and hiking during your stay here.

Stonewall Resort in Roanoke is close to Stonewall Jackson Lake, and about 35 miles from Clarksburg. All the spaces have full hookups, back-ins, fire rings, and paved sites. Recreational facilities include a heated pool, hot tub, swimming, fishing, playground, and golf.

Explore the City

There’s quite a bit of exploring to do within the city, so carve out an afternoon for exploring. Known for its best-preserved historic downtown, this area is worth all the accolades. Quality Hill Historic Downtown is interesting to check out for architecture lovers, with some buildings dating back to the mid-1800’s. A variety of architectural styles is the highlight of this area; walk around to soak it all in! Sticking with history, another interesting activity to participate in is the Civil War Trail Sites. Since West Virginia was the only state to be created out of the Civil War, the city has a rich history dating back to the war; there are several Civil War Trail Markers that can be explored as you walk around the city.

On a more sinister note is the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum that you may consider visiting if you enjoy the realm of paranormal. Located in the neighboring city of Weston, visitors can opt for a tour of the buildings. Remember though; this visit isn’t recommended for the faint-hearted.

If you fancy a round of golf during your outdoor recreational vacation, head to Veterans Memorial Park Disc Golf Course. It’s a 9-hole course that has uphill, downhill and sloping greens options.

Clarksburg offers plenty of dining options; from chain restaurants to smaller casual eateries and fine dining restaurants. Don’t forget to try the signature West Virginian favorite, Pepperoni Rolls while in town!
