Although Raymond wasn’t officially founded until 1907, there were settlers and businesses in the area for decades prior. The town was built over the wetlands, and many structures were built on stilts, with wooden boardwalks connecting homes and shops along the “streets.” Today, the wetlands are partially drained, allowing for more conventional buildings and homes to be constructed. The city was and still is a lumber-mill town. So load up the family and bring your RV rental to Raymond, Washington; there’s plenty of things to do and see in this part of the state.

Chehalis, a larger town just off the Interstate 5, is 45 miles due east. Tacoma, a town south of Seattle, is 100 miles to the northeast. The nearest larger cities of Portland and Seattle are approximately 125 miles to the southeast and northeast. The closest Pacific-Ocean beach is about 23 miles, in North Cove.

The Great Outdoors

When you book a motorhome in Raymond, you will have access to several unique recreational areas. While, this part of the state is largely privately owned, there are plenty of public lands for recreational activities and outdoors-people. For example, the Willapa Wetlands (aka Potter’s Slough) is an undeveloped park a few miles west of Raymond. Run by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, this park is a popular saltwater marsh for fishermen and clammers, waterfowl hunters, and bird-watchers. Eagles, wading birds, and ducks are regular visitors here.

Another nearby park, Smith Creek - North River, offers similar rustic conditions. Enjoy the day taking in the beautiful landscape the park has to offer. Parking areas are available; however, they are underdeveloped and at times muddy.

Willapa Hills State Park Trail, which is a part of a project to eventually create an interconnected trail from the ocean to the Idaho border, links Chehalis to South Bend, terminating a few miles short of the ocean. The 22 miles out of 56 miles of trail are developed for biking and horseback riding, and cycling as well. The balance of trail is unimproved and may be challenging for bicycles and some horses. This would be a spectacular place to park your Raymond camper rental and hike down to the ocean.

The towns in the Willapa area have jointly created a Willapa Water Trail, in which visitors can take boats exploring on the Willapa Bay. What a perfect place to gather with friends and family and enjoy a day out on the bay!
